Lost

Lost

In the last 2 years life has been shockingly horrific for me. In September 2024 my husband died & 2 days later I found out he’d been cheating. In the January of 2025 my mum fell & broke her hip. She also has Alzheimers & after surgery she was placed in rehab. Whilst in there my dad had a major heart attack & I had to make the choice to turn off life support.

Content/Trigger warning: Details of violence
On the 1st of April my 2nd son had a mental breakdown & stabbed my eldest son 8 times nearly killing him & he also attacked me.
On the 4th April I was rushed to hospital by ambulance & they discovered I was in diabetic ketoacidosus. It turned out I was tipped over from type 2 to type 1. At the end of May 2025 my daughter passed away from the exact thing that put me in hospital.

During this time I had met someone who I thought was wonderful but turned out to be a lying cheater. In the time we were together it was 12 times including on the day of the attack & the night my daughter died. I finally came to my senses (well I thought I did) & left him. I met someone & seriously fell in love there & then (as what fool wouldn’t huh). We moved in together & after knowing what I’ve been through & that I’d just put my son in jail, he believed he was more important than anyone else. I have had a seriously hard day after speaking to my psychologist & my grandson decided he was moving out & the partner asked if I was ok & I replied sarcastically I’m peachy keen that his mental health couldn’t take it & he couldn’t deal with it. Mind he didn’t even know what was wrong. I have come to the decision that I went from the frying pan into the fire. As of this moment I’m barricaded in my bedroom as he got very loud & was screaming at me & I got scared. Help me please! I am leaving but I have to wait til tomorrow & sort out what to do with my stuff. I’m a mess

Re: Lost

Hey @BlueDespair, I can hear how much you've been through - more than anyone should have to go through within a lifetime (let alone the past two years). I am sorry to hear about the loss of your father, husband and daughter. I imagine these losses feel very different for you. Having to make that choice of taking your father off life support would have been such a heavy decision to sit with. I hope that although you were the one to make that decision, that you also had some time to say your goodbyes🕊️ Finding out after your husband passes that he was cheating on you would be so confusing and difficult to navigate. And losing a child is such an unimaginable loss to comprehend... During this time, I encourage you to lean on family and friends so you aren't trying to cope with all of this on your own.

On top of the mountain of grief you must be feeling, having to testify against your own son which results in jailtime would also be confusing to navigate. We are glad to hear you and your other son are physically okay, but I imagine the attack has left lasting impacts on your mental and emotional wellbeing. It's okay to need support, and I encourage you to seek out that support with Beyond Blue (https://www.beyondblue.org.au/) Lifeline (https://www.lifeline.org.au/) or 1800RESPECT (https://1800respect.org.au/) 🌿

It sounds like you may currently be in a relationship that is abusive or scary, and I hear you intend to leave tomorrow. Doing whatever is best for your safety is important, and if you feel in any imminent danger, you can call 000 for police assistance. Are you in any imminent danger?

Re: Lost

Hi @BlueDespair, I just wanted to check in with you again after your post this morning. You’ve been through an incredible amount in such a short period of time, losing your husband, dad and daughter, your mum becoming unwell, what happened with your sons, your own health struggles and everything you’ve experienced in your relationships. It’s completely understandable that you’re feeling like a mess after carrying so much for so long.

I’m really sorry you’re having to deal with feeling scared in your own home on top of everything else. You mentioned that you were barricaded in your bedroom, so I just wanted to check that you’re safe right now. If you’re still feeling unsafe or your partner becomes threatening again, please call 000 for immediate help. You don’t have to wait until tomorrow if you feel you’re in danger

When you’re able to, please let us know how you’re going 💛

Hi @BlueDespair

That is a significant amount of loss in such a short amount of time. It would be very traumatizing and definitely would affect your mental health significantly. Please call 000 if you are in danger right now. You can always get your stuff with police another time. Please get help don't delay. If this is your property police can tell your partner to leave.
