Selfish partner who I adore

Selfish partner who I adore

I’m not sure what to do. I’m with someone I totally adore but she’s sometimes very selfish. She wants adoration and kisses and intimacy and reassurance and connection and I’m happy to give her all of that but when my batteries are running low or I’m feeling hurt or vulnerable she gets upset at me. If I’m frustrated or exasperated or not 100% she takes it personally and as a criticism.

She has also ended the relationship twice since we’ve been together and it’s only 4 months old. She apologised and said she was scared of being hurt but now I feel quite vulnerable and unsure and unsafe in the relationship. Anyone have any suggestions?

Hi @wishiwasntme I'm sorry to hear things have been so difficult in your relationship. It sounds like you really care about this person and want to be there for them, but your needs are important too.

You could reach out to the folks over at Relationships Australia for some insights and support:

Learning about Attachment Theory can also really help us to understand ourselves and others within close/intimate relationships - there's plenty of podcasts and literature out there that can give you an overview.

I'm glad you're here reaching out about what you're going through, and I hope you can talk it through with your partner too.
