Managing thoughts of suicide & self-harm

Sad, numb and Alone

Sad, numb and Alone

I’m so sad lately it hurts to breathe. I also feel so alone and no one can help. I have even reached out several times to CMH recently and also today and they can’t help me, and I feel worse off after reaching out! So I don’t know what the point is anymore. Maybe this is how it is for me- forever triggered and numb and forever getting worse. There is so much in my head and I’m exhausted. I’m not suicidal but I’m so lost.

Hi @countrygirl79 ,

Sounds so tough right now. I hear how lost it can feel.

What would you ideally like life to be like for you?

Are you linked in with SANE's Recovery Club? It might be a chance to go through some recovery goals and how to get there? https://www.sane.org/recovery-club

Re: Sad, numb and Alone

Ideal life- I have no idea to be honest anymore. I’ve been fighting and struggling for nearly 30 years now after the trauma started and the noise in my head just gets louder everyday and now I feel like a huge failure and just alone really. I don’t know what the next step is to try (also suffer ED ontop of cptsd etc). I’m sorry I guess I just needed to vent.

Hi @countrygirl79

Thank you for sharing what you’ve been going through. I’m sorry that it hurts so much, and you feel like no one can help. It’s really frustrating reaching out for help and being rejected. I think if you are alive there is always hope for recovery. Keep pushing and don’t accept no for an answer. There is help out there, you just need to find your support team (it really shouldn’t be your job but unfortunately that’s how the system is). Be kind to yourself.

Hi @countrygirl79,

Re "the noise in your head", do you mean auditory noises or voices? If so, have you tried peer support from the Hearing Voices community? They encompass noises as well as voices. The best Australian info is at https://www.unitingvictas.org.au/services/mental-health/hearing-voices-support/. They link to other communities worldwide, and have great approaches to managing noises and voices to reduce distress.

If you get flashbacks, have a look at https://www.sane.org/information-and-resources/the-sane-blog/managing-symptoms/coping-with-flashbacks

Aside from reducing distress in the moment, longer term work on trauma is discussed at:

There is also a trauma peer support group https://supportgroup.mhfa.org.au/trauma-and-ptsd-support-group
