Unable to get urgent mental health support

Unable to get urgent mental health support

I'm new here and just needed to share my frustration.

Yesterday was a really bad day. I was suffering a mental health crisis and needed some urgent help. I have NO support network at all, so looked online to see what I could do. I HATE speaking on the phone to anyone about anything, so its really hard for me to call something like Lifeline. I found a place about 25 minutes away that offered counsellign without a referral or appointment. I drove there to find that the counsellors were working from home and that I would have to call. I went straight to my GP and was fortunate enough to be able to see someone. I was really upset and he said that I should go to the emergency room and gave me a referral. I went, and after two hours of sitting in the waiting area in distress, I went and told the triage staff that I was leaving as I didnt want to wait anymore. They asked me if I had suicidal ideation, and I told them yes and that was why i was there. I ended up leaving without seeing anyone. After waiting for two hours, I no longer felt that I was going to be able to talk about the issues and emotions i was feeling.

I went home feeling awful and had no help at all. All i had was an $18 hospital car parking ticket :(

Now I have a GP appointment on Tuesday. I will no doubt be referred to a psychologist and a psychiatrist that I cant afford so wont be able to see anyway so I guess that will be a waste of time.

I cant believe it's so hard to get help when in distress and in immediate danger.

Sounds like you are putting in a lot of wise effort into your approach to AI @DownMoreThanUp, well done!

As an aside, have you tried the fellow human peers at the Roses in the Ocean Warmline? https://rosesintheocean.com.au/peer-care-companion-warmline/

It’s their policy not to call 000 as soon as you mention the S word.

I am extremely anti-AI so I wouldn’t even be willing to try it. I’m happy that talking to AI helps some people though
