Info about the AusAlert national test on Monday 27 July 2026

Hi Forumites,

We wanted to make sure you're aware of the upcoming AusAlert national test at around 2:00pm AEST on Monday 27 July 2026.

AusAlert is a new national warning system to send emergency messages to compatible mobile devices during local and national disasters and emergencies, expected to launch 1 October 2026 (more information here: www.ausalert.gov.au).

At around 2:00pm AEST on Monday 27 July 2026, devices (including most phones, and some smart watches and tablets) will vibrate and play a siren-like warning sound for about 10 seconds and an AusAlert message will appear on device screens clearly saying it is a test.

You do not need to do anything in response to the test (even if you don’t receive the alert).

The National Emergency Management Agency have provided the below stakeholder resource kits (also linked here: Stakeholders | ausalert)

  • Older Australians
  • Disabilities and extra support
  • First Nations
  • CALD Communities
  • Children with mobile phones
  • Drivers and Commuters

Staying Safe:

For those who feel unsafe receiving an AusAlert message, or for those who have a hidden device, there is a section on the website Staying Safe with AusAlert.

This section includes the AusAlert Safety Guide for Survivors. Translated into 19 languages and Easy Read, the AusAlert Safety Guide for Survivors specifically targets those who are living in situations of domestic and family violence and may be in possession of a safety phone/concealed device.

Importantly, you cannot turn off this test via your device settings. The only way to not receive it is to turn your mobile device off or switch it to ‘aeroplane mode’.

For any questions, please contact the AusAlert team: www.ausalert.gov.au

Thanks @littlemissme

I wish the site had better explanations of its intended uses, and limits intended regarding relevance to recipients... eg postcode within 20 km.... or type of demographic.... but there is very little actual intelligent discussion.... the site seems patronising... i have a ery active friend in fire brigade.... not much liaison...just top down... this is what is happening and everyone has to put up with it... I know lots of people in the community are upset by it...I was a bit detached at first ... but thinking that it is going to make people tense and over anxious about their devices and disasters ... hmmmm ... not sure if tht is what is intended .... they should be reassuring us a little ....anyway ... ex govt employee here ... like our tax dollars to be well spent.

Gung ho tekkie types may not always be good readers of the community ... says someone married to one way back ....eeeegh!
