Pa,

I never imagined I would one day have to stand here and say goodbye to you. There are no words that feel big enough to explain what it means to lose you, or how much I’m going to miss having you in my life.

When I think of you, I don’t think of one particular moment. I think of all the little moments that made you my Pa. I think about making you your cups of tea, going fishing with you, playing mini golf, and coming to see you so we could sit down and play cards together.

I loved learning different card games from you. Every time I came to see you, there was always another game to learn, another game to play, and another memory to make. I never knew at the time just how precious those moments would become.

I also loved your sense of humour. I’ll never forget your Homer Simpson impression. It would always make me laugh, and your other impressions were just as funny. Those are the little things about you that I’ll miss so much — the way you could make me laugh without even trying.

Those might seem like simple things, but they were our things. They were the moments where I got to spend time with you, laugh with you, and just be with my Pa. And those are the moments I’ll treasure for the rest of my life.

I’ll always remember you calling me your “school girl champion.” Those words will stay with me forever. They were something special between us, and whenever I think of them, I’ll think of you.

I wish I could come and see you one more time. I wish we could sit down and play one more card game, learn one more new game, have one more cup of tea, go fishing together, or hear you do that Homer Simpson impression one more time.

If I could have one more day with you, I wouldn’t need anything special. I’d just want to sit beside you, play cards, have a cup of tea, listen to your impressions and have one more ordinary day with my Pa.

Thank you for every memory. Thank you for every cup of tea, every fishing trip, every game of mini golf, every game of cards, every laugh, and every silly impression. Thank you for all the little moments that I now realise were never little at all.

Pa, I’m going to miss you more than I could ever put into words. I’m going to miss coming to see you. I’m going to miss hearing your voice. I’m going to miss our card games and your impressions. And I’m going to miss simply knowing that you were there.

But I promise I will never forget you.

I’ll carry you with me in all the memories we made. I’ll think of you every time I pick up a deck of cards, every time I make a cup of tea, every time I go fishing, and every time something makes me laugh.

So this isn’t just goodbye, Pa.

It’s thank you.

Thank you for being my grandpa. Thank you for being my Pa. Thank you for making me laugh, teaching me card games, spending time with me, and giving me memories that I will hold onto forever.

I love you with all my heart, and I wish I could have one more day with you.

Until we meet again, Pa…
