Kids Helpline

Kids Helpline

Did anyone else get extremely upset when they got too old for kids helpline. They were so so so much better than lifeline or beyond blue because they actually understood autism and you could talk to the same person everytime and not have to repeat yourself

I guess it's about finding a range of services you can access. Have you tried warmline? @Llamadrama1212

Re: Kids Helpline

Hey there @Llamadrama1212, not sure we have connected before, but I did come across your post here and wanted to say hi😊. I definitely get where you are coming from, I was a KHL kid for a while. It was a very very good service wasn’t it and I definitely liked that we were able to talk with the same counsellor 😊. I haven’t found any other service like it actually but I remain really thankful and incredibly grateful for all they did for me when nobody else was around.

You don’t have to answer but I was wondering are you newly discharged from KHL or been awhile? I totally get how you feel and the gap of adult services re continuative care. I am wondering what other supports you have in place at the moment?

But yes full respect to KHL, they were incredible. Wish there was an adult version sometimes hey! 🫶☀️

Re: Kids Helpline

I turned 26 last December. I have a good Gp, a really awful psychiatrist, a new psychologist and an OT. Thankfully I’ve finally got the Medicare safety net as it was very tricky to pay for all that on a part time retail wage and was using up my savings fast. I’m really hoping this new psychologist will be good, I’ve had so much trouble finding one who will deal with me as they call me a complex presentation

Re: Kids Helpline

Morning @Llamadrama1212, it’s really good to hear you have a team around you. I hear you don’t feel like you have a good psychiatrist but sounds like you like your GP and I really hope like you, the new psychologist you found- you connect with them. I often say psychologists are like shoes, you just have to find the right fit. I agree though, it can be a bit of a process to find one you connect with 🙈 but once you find a good one it makes all the work to find a good one worth it right? I don’t know if it was the same for you but it took me a couple of contacts with KHL until I connected with one I eventually stuck with 😊. Bonus about the safety net as well, I hope that can take the pressure off. It sounds like you have been working really hard with your team of health workers, well done. It is sometimes not easy work so full credit to you for staying connected with them ☀️

Just a handy tip if you put a @ in front of someone’s forum name you want to tag in a msg their name will turn blue and they will get a notification you have responded to them/ have a question for them 😊. Hey @tyme post above for you, a question about warmline ☀️
