Laughter as medicine

Laughter as medicine

I thought I would post this as we often forget what a powerful tonic humour can be. I have used my sense of humour to change my state when things have been really tough in the past, and it works (I have to laugh - I've seen myself naked, and I am damn well not crying, I'm a man!).

I can always tell how stressed a person is by how they respond to a joke - sometimes it just goes right over their head (usually means they are hyper-vigilant most of the time, sometimes they just don't get the joke - either one is cool). I had a couple of friends (past tense, as I cannot be bothered with those types who think it is okay to pull someone else down or humiliate them for telling a joke - tells me a lot about their character. I would rather someone just be polite, no dramas with that all).

Here's what I wanted to say anyway: Sometimes, when you are neck-deep in mental caca, it can seem almost impossible to raise a smile - I get it, been there and done that. But here is my secret sauce: Get yourself a collection of funnies, just for you. Whatever makes you chuckle is fine, even just a little bit. YouTube is great like that - free resource with loads of good stuff. Your local library has a good selection of stuff too - not necessarily joke books (I know hundreds of jokes, never owned a joke book, I just remember them). If humour is not really your thing, anything that makes you feel good inside will work too - a good autobiography, cookery books (I am a foodie and I know my way around the kitchen very well), music (I am a musician too and couldn't live without music), whatever does it for you.

Here's the cool part: Laughter gets you out of your own head and back into your heart - where you need to be. If you can make another feel better, you cannot help but feel better yourself. Its such a simple thing. You can always start small and build: a grimace done regularly can turn into a smirk, then a cack, then a good cackle and then a hearty guffaw! Now you're talking. Start with what you have and go for it. Peace😳😂

I'm the opposite to you @Taali ! I LOVE sweets! Cakes, slices, chocolate... just no lollies please? Someone offered me a lolly today. I said, "No thanks!"
