I've felt silenced my whole life.

I've felt silenced my whole life.

Hello,

I'm new here and I am in my late 30s and I've struggled with mental health my whole life. I am a suicide survivor and I still struggle with this daily this is what has affected me the most. The thing is I need to reach out because I don't know how to go about moving on with my life without some guidance. I've been silenced and mostly by others that should have loved me and cared for me instead it was an unspoken subject.

TW: Suicide

Content/trigger warning

My attempt of my life in my teens was then a time where nothing felt like it fit. Instead everyone around me were out using taunts and encouraging each other of being the bullies of my life. That simply was how my life went throughout my childhood and into my early teens I had issues so I was bullied. That's ok I can get over that but I find myself lately really really pushing limits when it comes to suicide. I never wanted to go there again because I remember that time I remember that time of people basically encouraging me. Encouraging me to end my life. I know it was me that walked into that room without that even do it. It was instead the words travelling down the hallway into that bathroom I could hear how bad I was right that second. So it happened very quickly so basically I remember that moment and I told myself I would never go back there. Unfortunately lately I've had to reach out to mental health services because I'm finding it very hard not to go over that line. Instead they look at me with a blank look wondering why I was there I then still have to justify why I was seeking help. Sometimes the complete lack of even noticing that really what was on my mind was suicide they turned it blind eye. What I need to do in my life is to move on and I know this but I don't seem to be able to do it without having my conscience cleared of things that don't seem right to me. Also it hasn't seemed right to me throughout my whole life. Why was it that nobody ever mentioned what happened to me why was it something that we never discussed nor approached instead I'm made to think that I didn't matter at all even at that point where I was dead for that second. I can't but wonder if anybody cared or felt how I was feeling. I also was let down by the public health system by not having any follow-up after this event nor having any regard for my future or my journey ahead of facing things alone even when nearly already had been through enough being in a coma means that you in some way left this Earth why was it that even one of the biggest hospitals in Victoria chose to put me on a train and send me to an a house that wasn't even my home anymore it was like I was just on my own yes the thing is because I was award of the state it seemed that it was easy to not care about me is that maybe what it is there's nobody to fight for me so they just up and out you

I don't know I would love some advice on how people see things by me just talking about my feelings a little I just feel like I will never have any happiness and that happiness has been ripped away by people that should have done better how am I able to have some justice if that's what it is what do you think also thank you for having me here as I'm new and I'm trying something just to try and Be able to move forward this is been a great help having somewhere to post thank you.

Awww... grr. It's not you. It's a tech issue that's been reported.

What a way to welcome you and you can't even tag - so sorry! It'll hopefully be fixed tomorrow or in the next few days.

Re: I've felt silenced my whole life.

@nomoresilance99 i like your user name. I'm a survivor same as you. In my teens, but then I was well for a long time, and then i had another unfortunate experience in 2024 where I again struggled with suicidality. I feel no one understood me.

It made me hide my feelings and it became this private thing that I almost obsessed about, because when I tried to reach out or share, ppl dismissed me.

I wasn't stable and my thoughts weren't rational, but they felt very real. I am pleased to say I've overcome them, and I don't struggle with those thoughts anymore - or very rarely. How are you doing at the moment?

Re: I've felt silenced my whole life.

I just had a two week hospital stay that was an uneventful. Basically I had to push myself through to the hospital before they would take me on you know it's like fighting with someone when you want help only. I'm doing ok I'm just feeling a little bit isolated as I'm new to sort of a different state now and I don't have a lot of you know support. I am pretty low to be honest in regards to mood I feel a lot more depressed than usual on a new medication those hopefully it works. Thanks for asking it's nice to meet somebody that also has suffered as I have it's very hard to move forward without those feelings. So congratulations to you for feeling so much better with yourself I'm glad that you're out of that dark area in your own head. I'm a true believer in no one deserves to feel that suffering inside themselves enough to make us want us not to be here. Breaks my heart really I'm hoping that I can push through and try and get myself out of that frame of mind because I don't like how it consumes me.

Re: I've felt silenced my whole life.

@nomoresilance99 snap, i just had a 10 day hospital stay, was also uneventful.

Sorry you feel so isolated. do u feel good with ur drs/team? i hope the medication works!!!

to be honest with u, i don't feel "good" but i don't feel suicidal - thats gone, although it took me 2 years.

I haven't taken such good care of myself over that time, so i feel upset about that, but I guess i'm trying my best.

It's interesting how much environment makes a difference - I got a new mental health team and it really helped me, I feel safe with them, and they treat me respectfully. Before that I could barely get through 20 minutes without feeling unsafe in myself.

I really relate when you say it consumes you. I only started feeling better in January.
I was just getting worse and worse.

Sorry if i'm hijacking your thread, thank you for writing to me 🙂

Re: I've felt silenced my whole life.

Hey thanks for replying no don't be sorry you're not hijacking. You being honest in reaching out to somebody that is thinking she's the only one in the whole world feeling that way. You've helped heaps by showing made to snap out of feeling so alone. Well 10 days is also pretty long for mental health stay what state are you in? I'm in South Australia I'm glad that you're feeling a little better after experiencing it back then of obviously your proactive with your mental health now. that helps us the most we just have to try stay ahead of the dark times.

Re: I've felt silenced my whole life.

@nomoresilance99 you're definitely not alone. I'm grateful you're here.

I don't know if people knew what to do to help me, so I ended up in the emergency department so much 😞 i DEF told myself to get over it and every time i went i said "that's the last time," (and it never was).

I guess there were things that I needed to address, things taht weren't right, but I was so busy blaming/hating myself. It was not great.

Yes now you're reminding me it was actually 11 days. May 7th was the anniversary of my Su-al att-empt so i asked to stay one day longer, and discharged on may 8th.

I'm in Victoria.

i agree 100 percent you have to be proactive. I feel like its a bit of a magic thing where you have the right people around as well. I had really bad friends and mental health treatment, and I felt blamed and minimised. I ended a few friendships recently.

I'm sorry you feel so alone. I think we just bury these trauma regarding attempts but it is actually very cathartic to talk to another survivor. I don't know if I ever have, to be honest. Thank you for being here.

Re: I've felt silenced my whole life.

This one here is everything. GOOD JOB. Just in case no one's told you. **Not advice or anything**, but a decent amount of research has been done on links between social media and mental health issues and the results might shock you. They're not great. Constant comparison between yourself and curated versions of other people's lives is just a recipe for disaster (my personal opinion only).

Seriously, good job for getting yourself away from that kind of headspace. That takes some serious courage. Good job for bringing yourself to a place like this. Also takes some serious courage.

You're doing an awesome job just by still being here. Another personal opinion, the world needs more of your kind of courage.

Keep going. Please do feel free to keep sharing. I can't speak for anyone else, but I'd really like to hear more of your story if that's okay with you. Maybe your childhood would be a good place to start and you could work through your teens into your adult life?

It's entirely your choice. Either way, GOOD JOB for speaking for yourself.

Re: I've felt silenced my whole life.

Apologies, thought my comment would link directly to your one about quitting social media. Still dunno if it does or not, just doesn't show on my end.

Still, good job for that. You're not alone, and I'm proud of you.
