Re: Heart palpitations

I’m sorry you’re going through that, heart palpitations can feel really unsettling and uncomfortable.

Sometimes people find it helps to focus on slowing their breathing, grounding themselves, sitting upright for a little while, or doing something calming until the feeling settles a bit. Reducing caffeine or stress where possible can sometimes help too.

It’s also important to speak with a GP or health professional about heart palpitations, especially if they’re happening regularly or worsening, so they can help check what might be contributing to them.

I hope things ease for you soon @Bucket

How are you @Bucket ?

I find controlled breathing really works.

Have you tried any new strategies?

Re: Heart palpitations

@tyme. Thankyou I do controlled breathing but when this happens during the early hours in the morning when I'm asleep and get woken up really throws me off

Re: Heart palpitations

For me, what I found really helpful was that I completed just over 40 days of guided minfulness each night. Since then, things have been so so much better. @Bucket

My psych once told me that if you only practice it when you need it, then it's probably not the best time. So I just downloaded the Smiling Mind app and do it every night. I find now that when I need it, I automatically go into deep breathing without even thinking about it much. So it's been pretty cool I never thought I'd get to this point.

@Bucket Have doctors given you any suggestions? I can imagine how scary it is to wake up with these palpitations. I guess if it continues, then it's worth speak to a doc if you haven't already.

Take care, tyme

Thankyou @tyme
I have been told to get a harness for 24hours to see what's happening

Do you think you'll go ahead with it @Bucket ?

How's your day been today anyway?

Re: Heart palpitations

@tyne. I probably will. My day has been great and I just downloaded the smiling mind app

Re: Heart palpitations

Smiling Mind doesn't work for everyone, but it's worth a try. It's evidence based and I think that's what helped me the most. I used to think mindful breathing was a joke lol.

So In Smiling Mind, depending on what I'm feeling that evening, I pick a program that clicks with me. That is, if I've had a difficult interpersonal situation, I might go to the managing conflict program. If I'm finding it hard to go to sleep, I use the sleep program. If I'm feeling peckish but don't really need food, I use the Fighting cravings/urges program.

Play around with it and see what you find. 🙂

There's also a calendar that shows your streak with how many days you have practised it.

I'd be interested to know what you think. @Bucket

Also, I'm glad you had a good day today. What's the weather like on your side? I'd overcast here, but the temperature is pleasant - not too hot or cold.

@tyne. It's windy here and a bit cool

Re: Heart palpitations

Hey @Bucket ,

Yes, it's a bit overcast here.

What'd you get up to today? I went to church early this morning, then that's pretty much it.

I've just been working on some professional learning material to upskill 🙂
