Re: Saturday Soiree -- 9th May 2026

@creative_writer hey creative writer, thank you for your support. I suffer deep depression which resulted in psychosis when it was very severe. I have a very difficult upbringing. Learning to overcome seems lifelong ha. But I am hoping to find happiness. To overcome depression. Ha.

Re: Saturday Soiree -- 9th May 2026

@GezzaP I think stopping should be a gradual process and maybe trying nicotine patches of gummies, or something. The withdrawal from smoking is a real thing.

@Meowmy trauma can be hard. I have childhood and adulthood trauma, it can be rough. It took me a while to get a CPTSD diagnosis because I didn't realise I had PTSD until years later. It can definitely trigger depression and psychosis in many people. It's hard when there are multiple traumas at play. Working on trauma is a slow process, but you can get there ❤️

@creative_writer hey creative writer, trauma from my parents are very real. They were both very hard people. Now I begin to think this previous mentor get money out of me will become trauma ha. It definitely affected me in all areas of my life, relationships, church commitments. Ha.

Patches don’t work for me and the gum gives me hiccups. Prefer inhaler. @creative_writer The acupuncturist said we’d start by trying to reduce how much I smoke before stopping. See how I go.

@Meowmy I feel like a lot of mental illnesses have a trauma component. Traumas will ultimately have a significant impacts on different aspects of life. Healing is still possible ❤️

I've had both bigger and smaller traumas, but I think even the smaller ones still had an impact on me. I think we need to start considering trauma more broadly for mental illness.

@GezzaP maybe try the inhaler, reducing is often a better way to go. I feel like going off it completely wouldn't be realistic, I know you can do it slowly at your own pace

I stopped once for 6 months then went back to work after leave started again due to panic attack when told how many essays would have to grade @creative_writer . So I know I can stop.

Re: Saturday Soiree -- 9th May 2026

@creative_writer hey creative writer, guess trauma happen to vulnerable people, children. People who need support from powerful people. May be healing comes in terms of building internal resilience towards unjust treatments. That's the hard part. If it does it does happen, it happens very slowly. My previous mentor aware of my childhood abuse and he supported me yo an independent career. Now he is using his knowledge of my vulnerability to get money. Feels like he wants to get full control of my money and work ability for his use. But I am now more experienced . Hopefully I don't fall back into psychosis and lose control of my hard earned money.

@GezzaP it shows that you have the capacity to stop. A lot of people do use smoking to manage anxiety, it makes sense. Maybe developing alternative coping strategies with your psychologist might help you with a smoother transition

@Meowmy having vulnerabilities is part of being human. It’s a sad reality that people abuse power and exploit vulnerabilities. I hope things don’t escalate for you and you’re able to get symptoms under control. Do you have a regular therapist and psychiatrist you can see do support? Thinking of you 💖🫂
