Managing thoughts of suicide & self-harm

I’m feeling really lost

I’m feeling really lost

Hi, it’s my first day on this.
I feel like I want something really bad to happen to me. Like that I would go to hospital for. I tried searching up why I feel this way but I just don’t relate to it. It said that my brain just wants to be cared for by others to give me a break or something.
I really hate feeling this way and I feel really alone in this

Re: I’m feeling really lost

Hi @Gg_10, Welcome to the forums, I’m glad you reached out.

I’m really sorry you’re feeling this lost and alone.

Sometimes when people are overwhelmed, they can have thoughts like wanting something “serious” to happen just so they can finally get a break or be cared for, but it can also be a sign that things feel too much to hold on your own right now.

Are you safe at the moment?

If you’re feeling at risk or overwhelmed, please consider reaching out for immediate support. You can contact:

  • Lifeline on 13 11 14 (24/7)
  • Suicide Call Back Service on 1300 659 467
  • Beyond Blue on 1300 22 4636
  • Or 000 if you feel you are in immediate danger

Do you have any supports around you at the moment (professional or non-professional)?

You don’t have to go through this alone, and I’m really glad you told us how you’re feeling

Re: I’m feeling really lost

Hi nala2022,
I am safe at the moment. I have a psychologist and psychiatrist and I have been going to therapy for around 5 years now and I just don’t see any change. I feel like no matter how hard I try i just keep getting worse and worse. I don’t know what to do and I don’t see myself getting through this

Re: I’m feeling really lost

Thank you for letting us know you’re safe right now.

I’m really sorry things feel so hopeless and exhausting at the moment. After putting in so much effort for so long, it makes sense that feeling like nothing is changing would be deeply discouraging.

Even though it may not feel like it right now, the fact that you’re still reaching out, still showing up, and still trying says a lot about your strength in a very hard place.

Because you’ve shared that you don’t know how to get through this, it may be beneficial to let your psychologist and psychiatrist know how much things have worsened and how stuck you’re feeling. You deserve support that matches what you’re carrying right now.

For today, you don’t need to solve everything at once. Just focus on getting through this moment, then the next one.

We’re here with you @Gg_10

Hey @Gg_10, thank you for sharing your story with the community!

I just noticed that you mentioned that you don't think that you are getting enough support from your psycologist and psychiartist. I was thinking that there are other avenues for seeking support that you may not be aware of.

I wanted to explore whether you have a regular GP and if you have spoken with them about a mental health care plan and what options they have to refer you to? A GP is often the most significant and long term support with our mental health and can be really helpful.

Also we have free program here at SANE that is complementary support to what you already have. RecoveryClub has up to 5 1:1 sessions and factsheets and resources (groups are coming in the future). You can find out about it here: https://www.sane.org/recovery-club

Also please call or webchat with our Service Enquiries line if you would like to discuss other options that you might like to explore: https://www.sane.org/contact-us

I encourage you to continue to share your experiences with the community as I believe they will have some insight to share!

Take care

RiverSeal

I have talked to my gp about this and she said that she thinks going inpatient would be a good idea but nothing else has been suggested
