Welcome and getting started

Hello..first post ever

Hello..first post ever

Hello, I have never been involved in anything like this before. My story is that a few years ago I separated from my husband, we had been together 26 yrs. I have complex PTSD from the events which instigated our separating. I continued to work for a few years, moving around from rentals with my Border Collie as I did not have the funding to purchase in that area. Realising that I was past retirement age, last year I purchased a cottage in quite a remote are as it was all I could afford. I am finding this transition difficult. I am an introverted, private person anyway. I find myself crying a lot and I feel like a broken person, a failure much of the time. Sometimes days pass and I haven't achieved much. I thought that I would handle the isolation better than I actually am. I'm past wanting to connect with anyone. I engaged with some telephone counselling then found SANE on an internet search for help.

Hello @Reemi and welcome. I'm a socially isolated senior too, battling depression (part of bipolar I guess but anxiety and cptsd too).

Glad you have your border collie. I lost my elderly cat several weeks ago.

Moving to a new area and connecting with the community must be hard. I'm trying to reach out more after isolating for years, and it's not easy, especially without transport.

Do you have hobbies and interests? I follow the news and am trying to get back to gardening, craft and reading.

There are spaces here for social chitchat and another for trauma and cptsd if you're wanting to share or support others about that.

There's quite a few people here with similar backgrounds, hopefully you'll make friends quickly.

Re: Hello..first post ever

@Reemi, sorry to hear that you are struggling. PTSD is not an easy thing to go through,i have currently been diagnosed it myself. It sounds like you have achieved a lot on your own with nobody's help, even though it may not seem like it right now. Can you check in with your GP, sometimes the blues can kick back in when going through difficult times. I too feel like i am struggling a lot of the times with distressing thoughts and triggers and physical symptoms of PTSD. Could you join a support group in your local area? Feel free to chat on here whenever you like,we will be here to support you.

I am also a first time user of this platform.

It's wonderful you have your border collie. Dogs (and pets) are incredible.

I have been dealing with the loss of my 2 elderly cats.

Life can be horrific at times. Sounds like you are going through a rough time.

I had some of my medications changed last week which was really helpful

Have you considered going to your GP or Psychiatrist (if you have one)? I know the cost of appointments can be a barrier.

I try to things I enjoy doing like coloring on my iPad and playing my Nintendo Switch.

@Reemi

Hi and welcome, thanks for sharing your story. It’s a long time to share a life with someone to then adjust to independence, I think you’ve done really well and shown great resilience and fortitude to get yourself to where you are now. cptsd aside, it’s a major life adjustment- I hope you’re giving yourself credit and going easy on yourself at times.

I don’t know if you’re a creative person but what might be good for the solitude is doing a bit of writing, you may also find it healing. Maybe some light reflection and taking stock of things.

I resonated with your post as I have some trauma and depression from a breakup, I cry often and feel broken, like a failure. I don’t like how my life has gone or where I’m at. I got a job recently but I’m not sure if I’ll be able to keep it as my self confidence is so low.

Anyway, sending out my well wishes, I hope in my words and those of others you find some company.

Hey @papermoon

Writing has been so important for me in the healing process as well.

I want to echo the awesome advice you've given and ask that you also give yourself credit for all of your efforts. Applying and interviewing for a job is in and of itself a huge achievement; being selected, even if you do decide it isn't for you, is equally amazing! Be gentle with yourself. Trying is never failure. 🤍

Re: Hello..first post ever

Hi @Reemi and welcome! I've been in many online places like this but have found the sane to be a very kind and caring community. I also suffer PTSD and rarely feel comfortable talking about it with friends and family so having a place like this where I feel I am able to post without judgement and receive genuine care and support from the community is very helpful.

Hello

This is my first time using these services too. I hope you are able to get what you need out of it.

I can hear that you are really struggling just now. Feeling the need to cry a lot must be so exhausting for you. What helps you get through these moments?

For what it is worth, I did not hear a failure in your story. I heard a strong, independent woman who has managed PTSD, a divorce, and house searching. All whilst caring for another life (your border collie). I hope you are able to settle into your new home, exactly the way you need to.

🌸

Hi, just hope to chat with you a bit more. I also have a dog. They are the best. But I'm busy for next hour or so. Just thought I would reach out first. See if you still come to this site. From @Just
