rTMS What are your thoughts on the results?

rTMS What are your thoughts on the results?

Hi All, Been depressed for years and years, multiple meds to no effect other than apathy and a 'checked out' mind that was worse than the depression. Worse because I couldnt learn or immerse myself in almost anything. For a number of years in my 30's, I guess I was what they refer to as a high functioning alcoholic, all that means is that I drank, held down a job and paid the rent. Workwise things are much better, poarticularly since I stopped managing depression with alcohol which was about 15 years ago now. Theres dignity in having a better income and a job thats respectable enough considering how I was prior - Anyway, I had the initial 35 rTMS sessions with the last sesh done this morning. To anyone reading this, what's your experience with this/ That is, how did you feel before, during and after the treatment? Love to hear your thoughts, feelings and experience.

Thanks

I talked to people at the hospital I was at who were getting TMS. I would day 60% of them had a really pronounced effect and those without just felt nothing. Some of those that felt nothing had treatment resistant anxiety and another treatment resistant depression.

From what I have read the numbers are about with 60% of patients having a positive effect, in that 60% there is a range of Great, Good and Minimal success levels.

At that level its on par with antidepressants and to be honest those have worked for some people. I'm considering TMS but the cost is a little prohibitive at the moment so I'm saving up to get it done!

Hey @Alice

Thank you so much for sharing your journey with us all. A huge congratulations on finishing your 35th session this morning! That is a massive commitment of time and energy, and you should be really proud of seeing it through 💚

It's also incredible to hear about the 15 years you've put into your sobriety and the 'dignity' you have found in your professional life since then. That kind of long-term resilience is really inspiring to read about.

While I haven't personally gone through rTMS, I wanted to reach out to acknowledge that 'checked out' feeling you described with previous medications. It sounds incredibly frustrating to lose that ability to immerse yourself in the things you love. I'm really hoping that this new chapter brings back some clarity and connection for you.

I'll leave it to others in the community who have had the treatment to share their stories, but please know that we're all cheering you on as you navigate the post-treatment phase 💚

Hi @Alice

I have had the initial 35 sessions and then at the end of last year, another 15 sessions of rTMS.

I really liked the first 35 sessions and found it helped me in having some energy and clarity with life. I felt lighter and brighter.

The 2nd session not as much of an impact. There was very little change.

There was no physical pain with either of these sessions.

Congratulations on your sobriety of 15 yrs. I know that's a big deal. I hope rTMS is some help for you.
