psycosis and medications

psycosis and medications

  • Hi everyone, having a tough time with dark thoughts on a medication, for psycosis. They're fleeting but getting common.. How do you deal with it ? I have called the beyond blue this morning and they were helpful with trying to keep me busy but the lack of friends and isolation is something else. I have braught it up with the psychiatrist, just got a hmm. And a check of shakey hands No change to medication was recommended. Do you just bury these thoughts? Or let them pass ? Thank you in advance for your replies

Hi @misbehave,

Im glad you have reached out on the forums, you're asking the questions and being open and honest. That really counts. What stands out is the action you're already taking in reaching out to Beyond Blue, keeping busy and seeking support. That says a lot about your strength, despite things feeling challenging. I have no doubt the community on here will support you further, to walk through this and know you're not alone. Connection can be a wonderful antidote to isolation, and spaces like this are a great place to start.
If you feel things are starting to escalate in anyway, lifeline (131114) could be a useful support service.

Here if you need us, all the best 🙂

Hello @misbehave

Your feelings are very important, I hate it whenever someone’s concerns are simply brushed off with a “hmm”. People on here are caring and genuinely want to help and support each other. I’m new here too, I hope we’re both able to make some new friends.

Have you ever tried helping dark thoughts pass by visualising them?, like imagine loading them onto a boat and watching the boat sail off into the distance. I’ve tried to combine this with breathing exercises so with each exhale the boat “blows” a little further away.

Hi there,

i am seeing a psychologist for Trauma they have given me these links: One is called the TIPP method for distressing thoughts, panic attacks or just when you are feeling distressed. Sorry to hear your psychiatrist was not helpful. I find that doing deep breathing can help with racing thoughts also. There are heaps of videos on youtube. Distracting yourself with online games can help. I use this one it's a simple memory game https://www.memozor.com/memory-games/for-adults

TIPP method

1. splash your face with cold water for about 30 secs

2. Jog or march on the spot for about 60 secs

3. Do some paced breathing. (4-4-4-4 boxed breathing)

4 tense and untense your muscles

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rt08wzTYKHg (boxed breathing) (Breath from belly not chest)

Hope this helps
