Depressed with my situation, later 50s

Depressed with my situation, later 50s

Hi there people thx for having me. 1st post so l this is an ok place for depression as l couldn't find a depression section.

lt seems to me crazy especially at this stage but l'm just so damn stuck about my situation and just can not seem to be able to come up with a decision on what to do with it.

l didn't do well getting rid of my house but l did still also have a block of land in a small town. My ex and l bought it yrs back it was just suppose to be an investment but now because of the way things went with my house, it's looking like the best solution from here would be to just build something on the block. There's no debt on the block at all now and l do have small savings left that l could build a simple house with so financially it'd be ideal as l'd have no debt or mortgage.

Problem is a few things.

1stly, although l moved to regional area awhile back now, l grew up in the city but the town here at the block is tiny, no shops just a pub. Nearest decent town is 45k away.

The block does have a small cabin on it and l;ve been staying 6mths now supposedly figuring out whether l wanna build on it of not.

lt is a pretty block and spot and l'd have no debt if l just stayed here, where as not only don't l feel up to moving any more but l can't afford to now or to take on a new mortgage either after the house loss but somewhere better would be much much dearer and there'd be no way without one.

Trouble is, the town depresses the hell out of me especially at night every night l just sink again even if the day hasn't been too bad, sometimes even quite nice. Night comes round and down l go.

lt's just so damn small and away and at night there's just nothing except house lights on, that's it.

l mean if l had a choice l wouldn't choice to settle here never bought it back when for that at all, it's just the best solution though all round for sure. All round except that l just get so damn depressed out here.

So 6mths and l'm still absolutely nowhere about building something so l'm still just in the little cabin. Trouble with just doing it is, that if this went on and l just hated it here, l might not even be able to sell it and get my money back anyway and it still leaves the same problems above, with going somewhere better anyway.

lt's mad but l don't think l've ever been so stuck in my life.

Best to all.

mr

..500metres to Foodland (IGA) which is bit pricey and bit limited , but can have good specials. ok 29k for coles/woolies will do that 3 x this week. monday exercise physio. wednesday psych, thurs physio again, so if still in mood try and fit shopping in around that. I do claim travel for all of those , so get $27 for each trip. in july it goes up to $42

I have a few dift routes depending on mood, traffic vs no traffic , but bit longer eg.

yes, done nullabor 20x return at least sometimes 4x /year also nsw/act

@tyme that is a tough start to life.
Your dad having varicella-zoster virus - that can really mess a person up.

Your poor mom must have beside herself with you having such a rough start.

Ah yeah , well your pretty close then and you have the little one at least in town.

l could handle that sorta trips no prob.

We do have a baby iga 25k , but they're only good for milk and stuff pay double even for those.

The Nulla what 20x or 4 a yr whatever, were you a trucki mate?

But eh yeah, l went up 3x last wk, plus sat too.

also went 100k over somewhere to pick up windows last wk too.

This wk a lot more, goin down Geelong and a few other things.

So as l said earlier l guess, 55 ea way if that's all l did, prob wouldn't annoy me but well, two things. One, ya gotta think well how will l feel in 5-10yrs time.

But secondly, it detracts so much from all the other trips and just life l do everywhere else.

Sorry 🫤 @mrmista When I read about your sister and BIL, . . my brain 🧠 spat out “what a couple of _ _ _ _s.”

25 Houses - Guess they would never consider donating one, because family comes first.

Sorry - I’m going to stop before I get in trouble for running my mouth.

@Glisten

Yep , l shyt you not. Don;t you worry most people with money are just as bad, worst people of all, they wouldn't even give my daughter a rental.

Yet the people that have little usually tend to be the kindest of all.

Tis life l'm afraid. My families huge and there's plenty of others in there well into the millions too. You'd have more chance asking a dog on the street.

Apart from that they're actually pretty good, just don;t ask for anything- not that l do anyway know what l'd hear but some of the others have.

@mrmista it’s sad.

I know some relatives you wouldn’t choose to be friends with.

I don’t have any siblings and I only stay in contact with one cousin.

I told her when her husband dies, I’m moving in. He had lung cancer at the time. He doesn’t smoke. This is how my family deals with uncomfortable situations. We make jokes that get progressively worse.

I hope this little story made you smile.

Have a good night. I got to work in the rain tomorrow. Up at 5am. Landscaping my friend’s mom’s yard. Basically a 780mt sand dune with a 1960s original house.

Ah , parents, that's v understandable mate have done the same for yrs , earlier. Not quite the Nulla ha ha but yaknow, they were 850k away for quite a few yrs but earlier at least 3 or 400k usually.

But shyt then you've got a bit were you are then , that's the thing. Makes a massive difference, even though as we were saying somewhere earlier, everyone knowing your business can be a thing to though if you do have small shops and PO and stuff.

Here no one knows shyt unless you use the PO or Pub. The PO's hopeless, but half the towns in there is you go too early, all seeing and hearing your stuff . They can actually even look and read everyones parcels, names, often what it is, while they're waiting too believe it or not bc the stupid b in there stacks them all in the tiny waiting area. Hate that bloody place.

Here , oh shyt yeah getting olders a worry, l dunno wth people do and how they even manage their shopping. B up the road l met reckons she only goes up to town once a fortnight, but eh she's only our age. There's quite a few in their 80s about, dunno how they manage. Doubt there's deliveries butttt, on the other hand eh, they might like it that way and be happy as a pig in mud sooo, who knows l guess.

B loves it and she's a pretty cool lady to so it means a bit coming from her to me bc we're very similar so if she likes it, might be hope yet for me.
