Advocating for change

The Most Important Lesson I Learnt

The Most Important Lesson I Learnt

one of the more dreadful yet extremely important things I learnt is that I have to be my own advocate. I wish others went through experiences that forced them to be proactive, because althought not everything is pleasant things would be a lot worse if i forced myself to suffer in silence

Hey @moodyahhhhh

I wanted to take the time to thank you for sharing this with us all. It is an incredibly heavy lesson to learn, and there is a real 'dread' in realising that, at the end of the day, you are the one who has to carry the megaphone and banners for your own needs, if that makes sense 💚

It takes a lot of courage to move away from suffering in silence. While it’s exhausting to always be the proactive one, there is a lot of power in that shift from being a passenger in your own experience to being the one in the driver's seat.

Your post is a great reminder that speaking up is a form of self-care, even when it feels like a battle 💚

@moodyahhhhh

I am really glad to hear that! It sounds like such a massive relief to have all that documentation sorted 💚

Taking that step to secure what adjustments you need for your exams in June is a wonderful example of self-advocacy. It really isn't easy to push for those adjustments (I struggled a long time asking for any adjustments/accommodations), but it makes such a massive difference.

It is okay that things are feeling messy right now. Please give yourself some credit for the massive amount of work you just did. Make sure to do something nice for yourself, you deserve it! 💚

They'll probably do a quick tick box assessment, and Voila! There you go! A diagnosis @moodyahhhhh

Why not?

Do you have any hesitations?
