Understanding myself

Understanding myself

Hello again!

The past few weeks have been a bit of a whirlwind to say the least.

I’ve always known I didn’t fit in the world and people see me as quirky and weird and now I know why!! ADHD with a question mark next to ASD (would need further testing)

It’s only been two weeks since diagnosis and medication, but my gosh it’s such an odd experience not having continuous thoughts, managed moods, energy to get things done and just feeling better in myself.

It’s also been a time for grief and acceptance. I’ve spent 36 years struggling in all aspects of life and my parents didn’t notice. But my parents (well, teachers) noticed my brother’s ADHD and dyslexia at 7 years old. I would be told ‘you don’t finish anything’, ‘too emotional’, ‘inconsiderate’, ‘you’re like your grandmother’ (Nan was in and out of hospital, abusive, manipulative and had extreme mood shifts) etc.

Anyway, I’m starting art therapy next week. Seeing a new GP who specialises in neurodivergence, hormones and perimenopause. Good psychiatrist on board, medication seems to be working well so far and I’m beginning to socialise again.
I’m also considering starting my own house drop in cat sitting business 🙂

Thanks everyone for giving advice and guidance. This forum has helped me so much and made me feel connected and not alone in life.

HI there @K8e ,

Great to hear from you and thank you for the update. I hope you find art therapy helpful. We look forward to hearing how it goes.

I've had art therapy sessions in the past, but it wasn't what I expected, so I'm interested to hear what your art therapy looks like. Is it in a group setting?
