Finding balance

Finding balance

Hey S2S family and carers
We know that being both a carer and partner/family member/friend can be hard to juggle at times. How do you balance being a loved one with being a support person?

Re: Finding balance

I think for a long time I didn't even realise I'd blurred the line between the two. You're so focused on the person you love that your own needs just quietly move to the back of the queue. And it doesn't feel like sacrifice at the time ♡ it just feels like love.

What shifted things for me was realising that how I feel in my body directly affects the energy I bring to someone else. Not in a abstract way ... in a really practical, moment to moment way. When I'm depleted, I'm not actually present with them. I'm just physically there.

So I started treating some really simple things as non-negotiable. Breathwork — even just a few minutes. Getting my body moving. Doing something that genuinely filled me back up rather than just got me through the day. Not because I deserved it as a reward, but because it actually made me better for the person I was showing up for.

It's not selfish to raise your own energy. It might actually be one of the most caring things you can do ♡

Curious what others do to fill themselves back up > especially on the days when there doesn't feel like there's much left in the tank?

Self love is good for your own mental health, physical, spiritual, emotional and psychological health. Life can get very overwhelming at times trying to juggle a lot of responsibilities both personally and professionally.

For me personally it can be simple things that give me pleasure and restore good endorphins from getting a quick bit of exercise walking around the beach or lake, walking the dog or hanging out with them on the couch.

Going outside for 5 mins away from any work tasks. Or the good old splashing my face with very cold water as a quick pick me up. Oh a good decent cup of coffee.

Watching a tik tok on something thats funny and light hearted and will make me laugh like baby highland cows, kittens or dogs talking back to their owners or being goof balls.

Some people may whip up a batch of their favourite food, read a chapter in a good book, dinner at the pub or go do some yoga or breathing exercises to help ground themselves.

My hubby for him its is favourite icecream, some sort of train related video or simply going to have a warm shower and relaxing and going to bed early to give his brain and body a chance to unwind and rest.

My son would probably say listening to his favourite music or gaming.
