My alcoholism has come full circle! (TW: Alcohol, obviously).
Monday was fearful.
I work in a contact centre for an investment company. We have about 25 people. 17 of them didn't come to work on Monday. Work avoidance is a concern in the industry but I have never seen anything like that.
I decided to stay back to finish. I then called my manager to talk about a special case, and then finalised some e-mails I didn't have time to do earlier. I enjoy being the last one to leave the office. I finished at 7:00PM.
I am almost seven months sober. The last time I drank, I was taken to hospital by Police after I called them saying I was having a LOT-of-alcohol-fuelled panic attack.
What I didn't mention was that it happened at work. I started drinking on my break and then blacked out.
I called the Police to the office, after waking up in our quiet room at 7:00PM, with no recollection of how I got there.
It was a huge relief, to know the experience of walking out of the office at the same time, sober as a judge, drinking a goddamn Pepsi. I walked past the quiet room, imagining that incident from the third person.
I didn't get in trouble with work obviously, because of a lack of evidence. Lucky as hell to be alive, and still in a position to help our clients.
My family found out I had a drinking problem because I went missing. I flew to a different city to run, and I was completely homeless. I wasn't eating for days, wasn't sleeping at all. They found me after three weeks. In a library, of course, knowing me.
Our relationship with that city is a bit weird now. Every time we hear about it, we think of that time. I was in the CBD the whole time. Well, there is a huge event there in September and I want to go. No need to be missing and drunk this time.
It kind of floors me, that September will be fourteen months sober. With just fourteen months sober I will have come full circle.
