The Creative Writing Corner

The Creative Writing Corner

"There is no greater power on this earth, than story," Libby Bray

Why hello there!

I've been discussing with @Jynx and @AuntGlow the fact that I used to write a lot as a child - pages and pages of imagination, and wonderous stories that I loved sharing with anyone that would listen at the time. I feel like I've lost that little spark of wonder and imagination. AuntGlow and Jynx have been encouraging me to explore writing again, to remove the perfectionism and judgement from it and look at it as a process, as a way to connect with younger me and the kind of vivid imagination that younger me had.

I know that we have some writers here, and some members who use writing as a way of expressing themselves, so I wanted to extend the same opportunity to the forum. I thought we could share a writing prompt each week, and members could write whatever comes up for them, whether it be poetry or prose. Members can share their writing, or just comment and let others know that they're joining in - whatever feels more comfortable. There's never any pressure to share. As a matter of safety and consideration for others, please make sure that the writing you do share, sticks to the forum guidelines.

Our first prompt to kick us off is....

A lot of drivers can be selfish and reckless. I think adults need to have opportunity to play in healthy and safe ways.

AHHHHH! I love this SO much. @NightFury 🤩

I am so excited to see what you all come up with. I loved your piece @NightFury, it very much paints an Aladdin-type picture, doesn't it? You'd make a great young adult fiction writer. 🥰

PS: I would love to play along too, if that's okay!! 🙊

Re: The Creative Writing Corner

Warm light, why do you glow as if to soften my blunt making?

Do your rays reach the corners of even the darkest of spaces?

Do you dream of knowing why dim glows are present?

Or do you spend your hours existing, a fearless expression.

Warm light, do you not know the true powers of your being

Or are you absent from your own sorcery? Wild. Revealing.

Do you dance on pavement to cast your shadow?

Does it make you feel powerful? Wild. Shallow.

Light, do you dare shine on me in the darkest of corners?

Full of spiderwebs, dust and a broken woman’s old clothes.

Why is my darkness protruding from within?

Reaching places you’ve never been.

Do you not see me like, I see you, softly.

My restless soul knows but to worry.

Your presence is building from faint to bold

Will you forgive me for forgetting your beauty, and my way

Warm light, I see you are so warm,

Like a hug, a smile with eyes reborn

You’ve awoken me to a softer way, warm light

I thank you for yesterday and today

@NightFury

Re: The Creative Writing Corner

Thank you @NightFury . 😊 I look forward to seeing what you (and others) come up with.

Whilst I don't feel up to trying to make my thoughts into a coherent narrative / creative piece, I can share what it evokes in me. I see this as "step 1" - like when I had to write essays, and I would first gather up all the points I wanted to make/discuss, but not yet sorted out how they all fit together coherently?

I do apologies in advance that this isn't provoking "happy" things in me today though. I think it is my tried-brain from lack of sleep. But I am ok. I will make sure to rest today and hope to improve this brain thinking state. 😊

Content/trigger warning

(Christian union)

They told me it was only a dream

A fantasy in my mind

That I was having psychotic episodes

That with them I needed time

(last long-term church)

They told me the lies would unravel

That experiences would prove them wrong

But none of it was a lie

My memories are all true

(rehab)

They told me I made it up

That my mind was sick and twisted

That I was demon possessed

That I was never pregnant

(occult)

They told me it was only a dream

That I would never be capable

I was as screwed up as I am now

That I would never get out

(parents)

They told me I'd never be good enough

That my place was in the bedroom

That this was my eternity

That I may as well face facts

(police)

They told me to stop trying

That I would never get justice

To stop making statements

That it wasn't going to change

(hospital)

They told me that I was faking seizures

That I wasn't in danger

They said I was making it up

And to stop wasting their time

(current church)

They told me they couldn't help me

That I'd be better where I am

Paying $200 a night

Because they wanted me to be settled

They told me all these things

All these lies that I believed

The concepts I still struggle with

The words that still entrap me

I try to fight the demons

But when there are so many

The inner critic is loud

To feel I'm sinking, drowning
