Talking through trauma and PTSD

The me no one knows - SI warning

The me no one knows - SI warning

I’ve made this space to have somewhere safe to talk and share things.

to chat with every one who has shown concern about and for me.

I have spent almost all my life masking, from as far back as primary school (possibly younger).

almost no one knows the real me. Not sure if I even know the real me.

my past is filled with lots of darkness. People I’ve tried to speak with during my life either don’t believe me or don’t want to know

@AlwaysMyself @Bunniekins @Captain24 @Cuddlebear @rav3n @Jynx

hiding behind the mask pretending nothing is wrong. Putting on brave face whilst inside I’m a shattered pieces. Feeling lost and completely alone. No one wants anything to do with me. Relatives only contact when they want something. Going to bed every night hoping to never wake again

I believe they have exercise drumming therapy sessions for children as part of trauma therapy. The rhythm supposedly helps with regulation??? @Flutterbug9

Your book/dvd/movie cases looks great @Flutterbug9 😍. Aesthetically pleasing.

Business hours drop-in eh, @Flutterbug9 😏. My area MMH is "drop in to ask us about services and/or an intake appointment" but not a crisis/help drop-in. They are refer-out service. My area's Safe Haven is the only crisis/need-help-now drop-in (other than Urgent Care Clinic or Emergency Department which of course are medical focus but wont turn away a MH crisis per se). And they operate 5 days a week 3-10pm specifically because they find those are the (statistically) most in-demand times for crisis apparently. They'd like to be open more days/hours, but are reliant on local government funding.

@Flutterbug9 , believe it or not, do you know what I found super therapeutic? Salsa dancing! I can't dance for peanuts, but my local community hub had sessions so I went along. The 3 count beat ended up being a mindfulness activity and I felt so well after each session.

Why I'm sharing is that sometimes, we engage in activities, but these end up being distractions - something to distract you from what you are feeling.

Of course distractions have their place, but I feel long term, it's a bandaid. I wonder if this is why you feel flat after?

It's just my thinking. I'm open to hearing what you think.

Re: The me no one knows - SI warning

Sunday afternoon is cat time, unless a movie is being run at the cinema I want to see. @tyme atm I’m thinking about maybe going to the cinema next Sunday afternoon and watching movie Nyad. Is based on true story about woman swimming from Cuba to Florida.

Before I retired I always allocated Sunday afternoon to the cats. Pattern I’ve tried to continue. DVD on, feet up, small run on my knees and they both usually join me.

Next 2 weeks I’m going to be out different times almost every day. I’m not popular when I go out. 😂

We like you for who you are @Flutterbug9 You can be popular here 🙂

Wow, you have a so many different movies you can watch. I've never heard of Nyad. Sounds interesting though. Why did the woman swim from Cuba to Florida? Was she escaping something?

Awwww... Sunday is cat time 🙂 How sweet.

Ah! Let me know how it is. I don't mind memoirs.

I hope this is not triggering, but I read a memoir called "Sociopath" by Patric Gagne. It was such an eye opener. I learnt so much about sociopaths, and their behaviour.

Do you know any other good memoirs - books, audiobooks or movies? @Flutterbug9

Re: The me no one knows - SI warning

@AlwaysMyself Neighbourhood child peers in the photo I mentioned were mix of one branch of cousins and next door neighbours children.

never spent much time in cousins childhood home.

childhood neighbours I’ve referred to as my 2nd parents first many years. At one stage, wishing they were my parents. I spent a lot of time in their home plus with their daughters. Friends of neighbours always knew they were welcome at my childhood neighbours home.

what about yourself? Memories of childhood neighbours etc.

did you have any favourite teachers in primary or secondary school? Preferred subjects at school?

what is your Uni qualifications?
