Talking through trauma and PTSD

The me no one knows - SI warning

The me no one knows - SI warning

I’ve made this space to have somewhere safe to talk and share things.

to chat with every one who has shown concern about and for me.

I have spent almost all my life masking, from as far back as primary school (possibly younger).

almost no one knows the real me. Not sure if I even know the real me.

my past is filled with lots of darkness. People I’ve tried to speak with during my life either don’t believe me or don’t want to know

@AlwaysMyself @Bunniekins @Captain24 @Cuddlebear @rav3n @Jynx

hiding behind the mask pretending nothing is wrong. Putting on brave face whilst inside I’m a shattered pieces. Feeling lost and completely alone. No one wants anything to do with me. Relatives only contact when they want something. Going to bed every night hoping to never wake again

Re: The me no one knows - SI warning

Trying to do things to help distract from thoughts, keep my mind busy and lift my mood @tyme @AlwaysMyself

other things I know I need sound easy but arent.

jokes, humour, laughter

i enjoy things I do eg trying to learn to play lawn bowls, to stand the right way, follow instructions etc whilst doing the activity. I can’t maintain that feeling of enjoyment. 5 mins after finishing whatever I’ve been doing and I’m flat again. Times that gets to me things go downhill really quickly

Re: The me no one knows - SI warning

You're doing a lot to help yourself @Flutterbug9 😊, i want to acknowledge that. Because it is really good, and i also know it isnt easy.

Your openness to trying new things, despite the anxiety, is 🤩 fantastic.

How long have you been playing croquet for now?

I'm wondering how long in it took until it stopped feeling anxiety/panic to do? (Or has it never stopped feeling that way to go?)

Re: The me no one knows - SI warning

As a pre-teen / early teen i liked the Redwall books. I've heard of Percy Jackson books but dont know them / havent read them @Flutterbug9 .

As a teen i started reading crime fiction. Michael Connolly, Kathy Reichs, Harlen Coben, Michael Koryta. Friend put me onto Patricia Cornwall (only read 1 so far, but i liked it). They're my favourite authors ive read i think. If i see a new Reichs or Coben book I will be tempted to buy it lol. I probably would also with Connolly ones, esp if theyre in the Bosch series or related characters that i already know from his other books.

But i have tried not to buy any more books in the past 10+ years .... because I have too many i still havent read. 🤭 (by Cornwall and other authors)

Re: The me no one knows - SI warning

I’ve not heard of any of those authors @AlwaysMyself

@I’m part way through all the Little House on the Prairie books.

need to eBay search for one specific book from 39 clues series, somehow I’m lost it when I moved. Others I’ve got are Keys of the Kingdom by Garth Nic, wheel of Time by Robert Jordan, Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer. Series of 3 by Emily Rodda and 2 sets of books by Michael morpurgo. As I said to Tyme, feel like pre teen child who never grew up when comes to my reading preferences. I was an avid book reader until early high school. Only remember one novel in high school which I fully read and thoroughly enjoyed. Can’t remember what it was. Only remember not wanting to stop reading it until it was finished

only books in last paragraph I’ve read are 39 clues

@Jynx @tyme

I made some enquiries yesterday trying to find out what “exercises drumming” is.

45mins session in small fully enclosed room following YouTube exercise videos.

possible YouTube videos I’ve found are ‘cardio drumming’. I’m noise sensitive. Not for me

From quite painful experience in the past, I learnt the hard way I’ve got to be careful what I do. I have a muscle strengthening routine I do at home which my physio has taught me how to tailor to suit how my joints are. I did chair yoga class for 10 weeks at one stage. Combination of both didn’t go well.

@Flutterbug9

I've heard of Little House on the Prairie as a book (general conversation only, maybe from trivia lol), but never knew it was part of a series. I just googled it! I recognise the author's name also -- from newspaper trivia 😅. I think it was in a question/answer in the past week lol. (My cafe friends do the trivia).

I'd never head of 39 Clues books, so I google it. https://www.bookseriesinorder.com/39-clues/

Looks to be quite a few of them and sub-series? 😊

A number of those names you mention having but not yet read arr familiar to me 😉, but not all.

I've *heard of* Garth Nix by name, but dont know his books. Artimis Fowl by Eoin Colfer i much enjoyed as a teen 😊, likewise Deltora Quest by Emily Rodda. I haven't heard of Michael Morpurgo though.

This is a shelf with some of my childhood books (plus 1 that i don't recall? Perhaps my mother or sisters book).

Rodda to the far right, Colfer the the right of centre. Redwall is the ones from the left. And the purple ones between Colfer & Rodda - they're about twins where the girl wants to be a knight (but females not allowed) and the boy (who is meant to be one) doesn't want to be. This was the series that i ever first heard of bandaging oneself to disguise as not being female body.

My bookcase - most books have seen second hand from charity sales, or given to me.

there are some books i have in my "to read" pile in my bedroom which arent here too 🤭.

Despite having 3 shelves of Patterson books I have not yet read any of his books. I was given *most* of them in bulk from someone who had read them and was getting rid of their collection, and a few others i bought prior to that because i had heard he was a popular author.

Re: The me no one knows - SI warning

My last 2 moves involved downsizing. Same as every move I’ve made, books were the item that was impacted.

from a young age I enjoyed reading books about animals (first said I wanted in be a vet in early primary school).

golden books were very popular books when I was young. Approx A5 hardcover books with stories featuring Disney characters. Typing this I had “light bulb” memory. Books were numbered, as early as mid primary I used to spend time making sure the books were in numerical order.

to my knowledge, I’ve only got 8 books from my childhood. A4 hardcover books, 2 boxed series of 4. All featuring stories featuring Disney characters.

Little House on the Prairie was a TV series at one stage. I’ve have the entire series on DVD plus all the books Laura Inglis Wilder wrote.

my mum had large collection of Readers Digest books of which I have kept small number of. I’ve got full series in hard cover books of Charles Dickens (all in mint condition)

I will take some photos later and post @AlwaysMyself
