Stupid brain

Stupid brain

My brain is stupid

Today I went for dinner with some of the guys from work, I’m still fairly new to this company and still trying to find ways to connect with some of them. My boss has been so lovely and supportive and I really appreciate him. As I was saying goodbye to everyone, I didn’t realise it at the time, but I didn’t actually say goodbye to him in particular. As I walked away he said bye to me and I turned around and said it. It was then that I realised that I didn’t say goodbye.

it was such a simple thing that doesn’t really matter but I went into a bad spiral. My mind when so dark so quick that I sat down on the street just to breathe. I keep overthinking it. I also keep thinking about what he tells me all the time, that I shouldn’t care what others think, and from there I asked myself why I even care in the first place. But the reason why I care about that act of rudeness towards him is because I do really appreciate him, he does so much to make sure im in a good and safe work environment and I also have heaps of respect for him too. I’m very grateful that’s he’s my boss.

I wanted to message him and apologise for being rude but that seemed just as silly as spiraling about something so ridiculous.

I drove home and all I can think is how stupid my brain is

It’s so stupid

Stupid brain

I don’t like my brain

Hey @Hazard357 ,

Thank you for sharing. I can certainly relate to what you have shared where you're brain has taken you on a trip around some dark parts of the universe.

However, before I continue, in line with community guidelines, are you able to clarify what support you are looking for from the community?

What would be helpful from the forums at the moment?

You can read this as part of Tell the Community what you Need.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Re: Stupid brain

hey, @tyme sorry, I am sometimes not very clear about things, sometimes I don’t even know till I get asked

I guess I’m wondering if anyone understands and if they know anything I can do to help myself. I feel like it’s uncontrollable and since everything happened I feel horrible and I can’t seem t get it out of my head. Is there’s something I can do to help myself in the future, I have a tendency to think about really dark thinks really quickly and it’s heavy.

situations like it, I’d Usually talk about it with the person but he’s my boss so I feel like it’s weird for me to talk to him a certain way. And even if I did, he’d just say I’m stupid and that I shouldn’t care what anyone thinks, I know because he’s said it before. Like today, he called me restarted because I struggled to talk to him about something simple.

so I’m at a loss, is there anyway I can help relieve this heavy, guilty and horrible feeling I have on my chest?

Re: Stupid brain

Hey buddy @Hazard357 ,

Believe it or not, it's happened to be A LOT (in the past).

A tiny thing happened and I'd ruminate over and over and over....

The thing in, from experience, the next day, NO ONE even brought it up. They didn't even notice. Mark my word, 9/10 times, I'd made a mountain out of a mole hill in my mind...

Would you consider "parking" it for tonight, and then see what you still think of it tomorrow?

All the best. I'll wait to hear from you.

Re: Stupid brain

I took your advice @tyme and slept on it

I feel a bit clouded and foggy this morning, I’m still thinking about it but it has lessened a bit. I’m still a bit nervous about seeing him and contemplating saying something but I also recognise that it’s stupid for me to think about something so small for so long. So I hope I can work on letting it go today

Re: Stupid brain

Hi @Hazard357

I think we all relate to missing a goodbye and feeling rude and wondering if we should apologise. None of us are perfect social creatures all the time. I know it doesn’t make the wondering any easier though. I’m glad you were able to sleep on it and it’s taking up less real estate today. I hope in time you’ll be able to be a bit kinder to yourself and realise it’s okay to make mistakes.
