Tagging a few people - but please do not feel you cannot participate if you are not tagged, of course you can! 😍😊

@AlwaysMyself

Thanks for the tag

when I was in Indonesia, Borneo wasn’t an option. I love that you love the wildlife , and that you bothered to go there. I can visit vicariously through your pics. Beautiful.

Re: Travel Photos

That sounds hopeful @AlwaysMyself .

I remember the peat fires after clearing for palm oil plantations. A swing to ecotourism and more sustainability is positive but may not be sufficient...

Well done for pursuing your longheld interest. They're great photos. Have you been taking many in the Australian bush?

Re: Travel Photos

@tyme yes, taken myself. Some are stills from video I took because sometimes that is easier/better than trying to capture them if they are moving or if it was dark (such as the barn owl and the civet). I am not a very good photographer (at all lol! I shake a fair bit), but my camera auto-focus does a decent job (but I notice a lot are still just a tad out of focus in their high-res view) and I bought a long-length zoom (equiv of 600mm) over 10 years ago specifically for my love of wildlife viewing.

It's funny because I can see the animals clearer through the camera/photos than with my own eyes directly lol.

It was very hard to get good photos of the monkeys in the trees because of branches & leaves. I got some great videos of them moving through trees at times though, or eating or grooming each other.

Here's another funny monkey photo (he was eating, hence the funny face) :

The arm/hand position just made it too funny I think.

Re: Travel Photos

these pics are so lovely!! @AlwaysMyself

aww the red leaf monkey looks so cute and cheeky hehe. omg how cool, you got to see the proboscis monkey!! (random story - when my sis and i were younger, i told her she looked like the proboscis monkey to annoy her - and she did indeed complain to my parents lol... but later in high school, it became my sister's fav animal!)

haha i love the way the frog sits 😆 so glad that you had a wonderful time!!

Awesome thread!! Thanks so much for the tag!! Really cool to see all the animals you saw! I didn’t expect a pic of a mantra ray!! That’s was awesome aswell !!

what were your favourite parts? ☀️🌈🦧

Re: Travel Photos

lol @rav3n 🤣. Some people in my family used to complain they had a big nose, so I had in the past said that they didn't have a large nose - a proboscis monkey does! ... they didn't think it was very complimentary though... 😅

I can totally see why your sister was upset with being called a proboscis as a child haha, but love that she has reclaimed it for herself now 😍.

I thought the Red Leaf was pretty cute too. It actually had a baby on its belly, but you can't see it in that photo. I have one of it, but you can't see the face of the adult in it, so I posted the funny/cute face instead.

@Chasingsunsets people often hope to see a manta ray in the Komodo region, but it's not a guarantee by any means. We were very lucky - esp as snorkelers not diving. Apparently as it approaches towards the Dec-Mar season (which is monsoon and thus not great for travelling) there is more chance due to manta ray migration. We were told it was about 50/50 chance in early November. Such a big area though, and for us to be able to find one especially in an open & not too deep (7 metres?) area was so lucky!

Not sure what my favourite part was. I like wildlife, so definitely the wildlife (not the hiking lol). I liked the ease of the car-based wildlife watching, and much easier to get focus than on a boat that is moving constantly lol. But I wish the car-based one had more roads they could go down (it was super remote, so there was literally 1 road that can be used for tourism due to the jungle). Always a delicate balance between environmental and tourism. The facilities that are there are for research and tourism is just a really new thing to the area.
