Moving forward (sexual abuse )

Moving forward (sexual abuse )

Hi fellow Sane people
Im really struggling with the disclosure of my sexual abuse and how to move forward.
Yes im safe and all the right steps have been taken etc but im still struggling to move forward
Im wondering what people have done snd strategies you've used in order to get through it?

Does it get easier over time?

Im very embarrassed and ashamed and scared by it and struggling so any help would be great.
It would be great to know if there are any other survivors on here and how you are now and how it affect the way you live

Re: Moving forward (sexual abuse )

We are book readers in our house @Baileyboy. I am so sorry you lost your books that way .... what a heartache for you .... I am glad you are re-building, and everyone is helping you ...

I had a burst water pipe in my house while we were away ... after years of roof leaks from a dodgy extension job .... had to move everything out (and we are a big family) and move back in again .... only to have the house flooded again 18 months later in a severe (1 in 200year) storm .... at that point we moved house !

We suffered wood floor, walls, roof and ceiling, and fixtures damage, but didn't lose personal items. I can imagine how devastating it would be though.

Re: Moving forward (sexual abuse )

@Faith-and-Hope not sure if you've seen my list of house woes. Past one involved some moron setting fire to our neighbours car. After banging on his door and yelling, finally got out only to watch both our places lose fistly our shared carport but basically th fron of the house. Water damage from the firies was an added touch. It took 10 months for the work to be completed and in this time we were broken into 7 times. Everything was stolen, beds and all. The only thing that was left was the dishwasher. Police did NOTHING. Even after finding finger prints and interviewing some guy he told them that he had permission to be in the boarde up house and they let him go...nothing else was ever done. Even lost personal things, mums engagement ring and other things. I lost 50 clowns of which I used to collect and after claiming on our contents insurance 5 times noone will insure us.

We couldn't move. Have a mortgage so had to deal with security issues and memories of smoke and stuf. Thought I was over it but when we had local bushfires this year the top of our house filled with smoke, the smoke alarms went off and my sister and I panicked big time. Finally checked there was no electrical problem and realised it was coming from outside.Relief was palpable.

We had to decide what to do with the insurance and went for the practical things. New bathroom, basic furniture, and security of course. Sometimes however it happens..you miss some piece of personal stuff. And the grieving begins again. I definitely grieve for my book friends.

Now that you have reminded me, I do remember that part now. Sending you big hugs @Baileyboy .... we go through a lot of circumstantial roller-coaster stuff .... Zits just what happens with us, but a fire hasn't been one of them.

Tough break ❣

It does build resilience though ... you will find you have a resilience that not everyone has.

You too @Former-Member ...

But walking through it on the moment is really rough, and there can be a lot of grieving to do, of different natures and degrees.

Re: Moving forward (sexual abuse )

Thanks for the hugs @Faith-and-Hope, I don't get many these days. Always thought mums hus were the best. They cured everything, daily disasters, friend woes, a cold a fever, as I said everything. Virtual hugs have to suffice.

Resilience is a great trait don't you think? That is when you are in the right frame of mind to use this skill. Grieving about all of this must be a natural result, I think.

Anyway, have to take my dog for a wee walk (literally) He's 14 and needs at least 2 trips downstairs to make it through the night. Thanks for your thoughts. Will probably get back online tommotow, well later today!

hi @Baileyboy @Faith-and-Hope

as well as my ankle injury, i have a mild form of scoliosis but enough to cause me greif, neck issues (still trying to work out whats going on as the bones are extremley stiff like its not lubricated).

my mother just seems to think im faking them or that im just complaing so i cant really tell her about them anymore, no matter how much pain im in and last night was extremley bad 😞

im glad you stayed up @Baileyboy and talked to @Faith-and-Hope shes a god send

reading through your comments from last night made me realsie theres usually someone around no matter what time it is

im sorry you had to go through all that @Baileyboy but i guess as faithandhope said it builds resislence.

@Faith-and-Hope i still feel like a freak but im a chicken and wont tell my gp yet but at least im not alone in it

@Former-Member @utopia @Faith-and-Hope @Appleblossom

Scared - I actually thought all you young people were protected these days by the Gardasil vaccine, which means you no longer need to have the dreaded Pap test? Since you are so young Scared, perhaps its worth asking your GP if its not too late to have this vaccination?

I totally agree about the stresses involved in having the Pap test done. I put them off until such time as my GP insists and even makes an appointment for me. Argghh. Then I get myself so worked up, shaking badly, crying, etc that they cant do the test effectively anyway! So I understand your reluctance about it.

However I am sure that the test can be delayed for a while, until you are better able to cope with it. Please discuss it with your GP and tell them the reason why, even if it is only an 'edited' version of why.

hi @Former-Member

yeah ive had those vaccinations so that would of helped. im not crash hot on going to get it done. it wouldnt think i needed it done anyway. i was just curious as to if you if were forced into getting it done after it all happened....

@Former-Member did it affect your relationships?

Re: Moving forward (sexual abuse )

Hi @Former-Member i think it was that one... but im up to date with all vaccines so if it was that then ive had it. I know i had the hpv one i think it is the one with 3 shots.
It was necessarily intimate but even relationships in general. I had a boyfriend at 14 and broke up before the abuse started but i often wondered if that was his intention too.
I cant be in the same room as a male and if theres more than 2 in a room i cant stand to be in there.
Im too scared to ever get anothr boyfriend ans i dont like being touched at all not even by females which is weird so makes alot of my appontments awkward to go to.

Ive never had an intimate relationship and im not classing the abuse as intimate no matter what my physical sensations were at the time. Which im not proud of and very ashamed of. 😞

Re: Moving forward (sexual abuse )

No even with the vaccine you still need paps.. It only protects against one strain, still best to talk to Dr when you can .
