Something’s not right

In a bad way right now. Don't know what to do. Again.

In a bad way right now. Don't know what to do. Again.

Hi all.
(Im ok, not going to do anything, etc, etc. Sorry mods I've forgotten all things you've asked to put up here)
I've been off the forums for a while due to the negativity I've (personally) experienced, but am at the point where I need to do *something* about my spiraling mental health.
I can't go to hospital and can't call support numbers becuase I (personally) don't trust them. Same with seeing a shrink. And before anyone says anything, no I'm not suggesting others shouldn't trust the MH profession, but I don't for my own personal reasons.

The fact is I'm losing the fight. I look back on my life and just see so much sadness. I look back and see so many points in my past where I think I should've been better or "if only I tried a little bit harder". But the fact is I was - I was doing the best I could do at the time. And it wasn't enough.

I feel so much sadness around the family I wanted to have, but never could. So much sadness about how the people I loved got worn out by me. Of the friends that have given up and gone away.

I feel so much sadness seeing how life has just become so narrowed down. From one day being surrounded by commnity and friends, then a few, then none at all. From being with a partner, planning a future and a family, coming home to a house that was lived in, to nothing at all. Everything is just so lonely now.

I don't want to say I failed at life because I don't think I ever had an equal starting ground to begin with. But I kinda wish that I wasn't so foolish enough to think that I was ever "normal" and could expect normal things.

Yeah man I dunno. Just got off the phone to a crisis line. Their suggestion: Mindfulness. Mindfulness. Mindfulness. The counsellor actually suggested buying a colouring in book! Like, I'm in such a state I can barely string a conherent sentence together on the phone and she thinks going outside and buying a colouring book will help? I can't even leave the house right now!
This is insane! This is a hell! My world and health is collapsing around me and I'm expected to just kick the can down the road with a f***ing childrens colouring in book?

Hey @Jlol, thanks for sharing your experience reaching out to a crisis support service. I'm sorry that you didn't get the support that you needed and they referred you to coping techniques that you didn't find helpful.

I encourage you to continue to reach out to your peers as connection and feeling heard can be really beneficial when we are not in a great space. What has worked for you in the past when you have felt like this or in a similar way?

I can relate to not wanting to leave the house as I have become a real home body since my mental health started a while ago now. Are there things you do at home that bring you joy that you could do? I like to listen to music and I have recently started to play video games when I don't feel great like this morning.

I understand that you don't want to do mindfulness and colouring and it can feel that it's not a way for you to cope right now. But I do want to acknowledge that these are legitimate coping techniques for some people and my self included have used these to manage my thoughts and feelings.

I believe that other Members may have some insights to share with similar situations too.

Thanks for sharing again and please stay connected on the Forums.

Sorry @RiverSeal

No nothing brings me joy right now. Music? Sorry, again along with the colouring in I think my situation is a little more serious than just popping on some tunes.

Hi @Jlol, I can hear how overwhelming things are for you at the moment. We really want to make sure you are able to get the right support for your current needs. The forums aren't a crisis service, so we encourage you to have a think about whether you may need to reach out to a different service than the one you called earlier, or whether you may need to think about contacting your local CATT or visiting the Emergency Dept as options, as it sounds like your situation is quite serious.

You're welcome to continue posting and connecting with other members of course. We just want to make sure that you're safe, and able to get the support you're needing in this moment.

Hello @Jlol you've been doing it tough for years and your state's health system seems to have been missing in action.

Forgive me for sticking my neck out but it seems you've rattled between EDs.and EAP psychologists and not always had good gp care or follow-up. A good gp would surely take the time for a mental health care plan and line you up with a psychiatrist and clinical psychologist - different skillset and training to a counselling psychologist.

I do hear how bad things are and it breaks my heart. Your experiences of DV and PTSD never seem to have been addressed. Among helplines have you ever tried Blue Knot? They seem good with complex trauma and at one stage nvited me to ring back weekly for free help if I needed it, although they couldn't promise the same person every time.

Take care.

@Jlol

Identifiable information is only shared with third parties when explicit consent is given. An example of this might include something like a case study. The only exception for this would be if there is imminent risk of harm to self or another, or risk of harm to a child.

Aggregated, de-identified data is shared with third parties, like funders. Funders often like to know the demographics and "types" of people who access services; like what proportion of service users identify as being Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders, age-group break-downs, gender identities etc.

Australian citizenship is not required to participate in our programs, however people do need to be located IN Australia.

Hope that helps 😊
