Happy start of the month everyone 👍

Happy start of the month everyone 👍

I’m currently and well have consistently been stuck in a state of emotional detachment.
Going on four years now, it’s not that they aren’t there it’s more that I don’t know how to “feel” them.
Like putting numbing cream on say your hand for example, you still know your hand is there but you also can’t feel that it’s there.

I’m new here so I apologise if this is a over share.

Hey Mate, Happy start of the month !

I recently realised that I have been shutting out my feelings for a long long time, one night I actually said to myself " I don't have any feelings " , but since then I recognised they are there - just buried. At first I thought something is very wrong, but now I'm realising that I've been on auto pilot focusing on my thoughts and doing the right thing by others. Having space for my own feelings seemed to get in the way. I guess I got really very very good at burying my feelings over the years - guess that's why. I'm slowly recognising them, the good and the bad and trying to accept, sit with them and approach with curiosity, instead of fear of my feelings. Not easy !

Thanks for sharing mate, It's nice to know I'm not the only one. Is there any particular situation of feeling you miss knowing how to feel ?

Definitely not an over share @Shellberight

Feelings! There are so many. For me, I always knew I had them, but it has being able to express them and find words that fitted or did justice to the situation. These days I believe the arts can be a good way to deal with, channel and express emotions.

Detachment can be a good thing, everything depends on context.

Welcome to the forum both of you.
