All Hallows Eve
Happy Halloween 🎃
Originally celebrated in Ireland as a harvest festival and a celebration to remember the Saints and others who have passed away. It spread across Europe, and eventually to America where it became the popularised celebration it is today.
Halloween means a lot to me, both as a celebration of all things spooky and scary and a time to mourn those who are no longer with us.
It is way for me to look at the passing of fellow humans as a way their souls to rejoin the universe, and in a way watch over and protect us from evil. Im not really religious or superstitious but I like to think that the souls of the dead may linger or stay with us (even if that is just through our memories)
I also find joy in the freedom of watching the children in my neighbourhood dress us and come together and wander down the street laughing and getting excited with the simple things. Lots of the houses in my street have young families and its a joy to watch the freedom of the kids and the community feel that is often missing in day to day society.
It reminds me that over time things evolve, what was once a time of mourning has become a time of joy and community. Times change, looking forward and finding things to smile about and have fun with matters. It put a smile on my face to decorate the house and get involved in my local community, even if Im just sitting on my front step, in a home made costume admiring the neighbours across the road.
