All Things Sport...

All Things Sport...

There are many threads dedicated to sharing experiences - good times and not so good - so I thought I would start a thread for those on here who love their sport. For me - and I suspect for some others - sport is a good distraction as it often blocks out the more negative emotions and helps to avoid triggers that many other things in 'life' so often seem to do.

This thread can also be a place where like-minded (and not so like-minded people @utopia @Former-Member @Zoe7 lol) can 'discuss/debate' their respective competitions in their preferred sport(s).

For those that are definitely NOT into sport @Phoenix_Rising for example - avoid this thread at all costs - whoops just tagged you in..........hahaha!!!!!

Eugene Bouchard @Scarecrowe

She is cute but also had a bet with a fan during the basketball in the US.

I don't recall the exact details but she said that if one team won then she'd go on a date with a fan from Twitter who asked her out.

Sure enough that's what she did. Lol

Re: All Things Sport...

I also like your theory there @Former-Member and would certainly hope Maxwell's MH timeout had nothing to do with him not being selected.

@Scarecrowe Yes the north-south rivalry is still very valid - and ridiculous in my opinion. That is one of the reasons I believe we will be a long way off having our own AFL team - especially with Hawthorn and NM playing games at both ends of the state. If we had our own AFL team I would travel to see them but only if some games where up North and some in the South. Both venues are great for sport so it could be shared.

@MDT I think Tim Paine will go down as one of our best ever Australian captains. He galvanised the side together at one of the most difficult (and embarassing) times in our cricketing history (much like the Chappell underarm debacle). He has shown both leadership and courage in bringing Australian cricket back to where it should be - not only winning but with a much better culture than there was - I whole heartedly and fully support what he has brough with him and how he handles himself in the public eye as well - so nothing but praise for both him as a person and his role as Australian cricket captain.

@MDT @Zoe7 @Former-Member @KB23

Well under the circumstances I think Paine has done a good job. He came into the role unexpectedly and with so much controversy with what happened in South Africa (which we will never mention lol).

And he would have had no idea he was going to be put in that position. He was getting ready to retire from cricket and work for Kookaburra.

He will never be known as a great Aussie captain but he is doing a good job and has steadied the ship.

I do love his on field banter...................very witty.

She is pretty @MDT for sure.

That is funny that she did that. And brave also lol.

Good for her for doing what she said she would do.

Re: All Things Sport...

@Zoe7 @MDT @Former-Member Agreed Paine represents himself off field very well too. It will be interesting to see how long he plays for especially when Smith's captaincy ban runs out. Do they stick with Paine or give it back to Smith? And does Smith want it back????? So many questions...........

I would be very happy to stick with Paine. The team and staff are obviously happy with him too which is great. If he had been captain when the debacle happened I reckon he would have put a stop to it then and there, not turned a blind eye like Smith did.

You know what I find wierd Zoe is that if we can fund a state cricket teams why can't we fund a state AFL team?????

And yes I agree the north/south rivalry is stupid. And I am pleased now that the Hurricanes are playing down south and north. It was annoying when they were only playing down south when there was a perfectly great ground here and they are meant to be for the whole of the state not just down south.

And yes a Tassie AFL team would have to play both north and south grounds. No reason why not, if the Hurricanes do it then so could they. And agreed both grounds are in perfect knick.

Re: All Things Sport...

I agree @Scarecrowe Smith should certainly have put a stop to it and showed a distinct lack of leadership at the time. I don't think he should take over from Paine at all - not that I blame him for what happened but because he didn't have the foresight to stop it. Cheating is cheating in my eyes and there is no place for it in sport (or in life). If you cannot play/win a game on fairly then do not play at all. After all - it is just a game - it is not life or death - and maybe some of these sports people that cheat need to realise that. They get paid exorbitant amounts for just playing a sport - and as uch as I love my sport there are bigger things/issues in this world to deal with.

Re: All Things Sport...

I concur with everything you said @Zoe7 @MDT @Former-Member

I love watching my fav sports but it does REALLY annoy me when they get paid SO much money. I do not see how they can justify it. It is just a game. I know it is their career and it is only for a certain time frame (not like an ordinary job) but it is way too much money. I am good at my job too but I don't see that type of money lol.

Re: All Things Sport...

It is way too much money @Scarecrowe Getting millions for a handful of games in the IPL for example is absolutely ridiculous. I would like to get that amount of money for teaching a coule of terms ...I would never have to work again LOL There is no justification that they have a short time span to actually play in their careers - with the money they are getting they could set 10 families up for life....
