Day 8 no alcohol losing patience

Day 8 no alcohol losing patience

Hello friends, it's day 8 no alcohol, I'm still fatigued and having cravings but I'm hanging in there. One thing I'm craving is to shut out any confrontation in my life including any annoying text messages I may get. I honestly am just losing my patience for people's ridiculous problems. That sounds so selfish and no normally me but I'm just finding it all to hard right now.

Hello @MG2879!

Firstly, thank you so much for this honest and vulnerable share.

Secondly, 8 days - what a win! This is a really big feat, so I just want to take a moment to acknowledge your persistence and effort (because it takes a lot to say no to something that is familiar, comforting, or regulating!) That being said, I can absolutely understand why bigger feelings would be coming up for you here... your body and mind would be adjusting to this change and likely needing a little extra support. Having less space for other people's drama is perfectly valid!

What support do you have for this transition period? Let's start there. 💛

What an up lifting reply thankyou so much for acknowledging my 8 days. I've moved 2hrs away from home recently so I have some beautiful long distant friends always at the end of the line or a message.

im also in the process of having my emotional support trained up to be my assistance dog. This is very exciting and challenging for me. She is my life saver through the rough times and to be able to always have her by my side especially during high anxiety situations will bring me peace.

Day 8 is a great achievement!!! I guess just remember your goal to stop drinking. If you don’t have one reward yourself for all the little wins!! You have got this, I have just gotten over the 3 month mark and it definitely wasn’t easy

Re: Day 8 no alcohol losing patience

Thanks so much for sharing. 3 months wow that seems so far away. Have you found changing your habit and social events challenging? I use to do drinks with family and friends almost every sat night. I've avoided going since I stopped drinking I just feel like I won't fit in and the temptation is to great.

it's Friday arvo and I normally crack my first drink at 1. I'm feeling lost how do I fill that space now plus I feel numb and boring.

Re: Day 8 no alcohol losing patience

@MG2879 I used to be the same. I would generally drink everyday of the week and even more on the weekends. After a recent mental health crisis I told myself and my family I’m done with alcohol. I sat down and wrote out what good things come with drinking alcohol. Surprisingly the list is quite small but the list for bad things is a lot bigger. As for dealing with social situations I have just found some flavoured tonic water or a nice refreshing soft drink. Lemon and lime is my go to for hot days.

you just need to ask yourself why you are giving up alcohol? And stick to it you will and can do this.

p.s I find telling a supportive friend or family member that you are done with alcohol. If they are supportive they will hold you to it.
