The Physiological Sigh
Today's contribution to this forum chat is a quick nervous system reset—let's do it together...
This is a regulation tool I use regularly that's genuinely helped me, called The Physiological Sigh
Here's how to do it:
- 2 sharp inhales through your nose (feel your belly expand)
- 1 long, slow exhale through your mouth
That's it. Takes about 5 seconds.
What I notice in my own body - This specific breathing pattern signals my system to downshift. It activates the vagus nerve and basically tells your nervous system "we're safe enough to regulate right now."
When I use it:
- Before conversations that matter
- Between back-to-back client meetings
- When I notice my system ramping up
- At night when my mind won't settle
- In the car before going into public spaces
Look, our bodies learned to stay alert for good reasons... but we don't need that anymore!
What regulation tools actually work for you?
