Connection

Connection

Hi everyone

Do you ever find yourself feeling lonely even when you’re surrounded by people?

I sometimes feel alone - which is fine - but feeling lonely is a whole different thing. Sometimes it feels like my friends aren’t interested in spending time with me. I feel like I’m always the one reaching out to connect - it makes me feel needy and like I’m imposing. I know that’s not the case but sometimes it feels like it is. Does that make sense?

How do others find connection? And how do you make friends when you’re a grown-up?

Re: Connection

I like this @ccau_82 @0ddsidian

I think I fall into 4 and 6

4. I was always the one reaching out and felt hurt and rejected when they didn’t reach out to me unless I did them. I do have to say now though, I have isolated myself from everyone and actually don’t respond. I know that’s not nice but I just can’t.

6. I won’t let myself reach out for help. I feel o don’t deserve it and others are more in need. I don’t want to be a burden to anyone I know. Definitely self-sufficiency equals survival!

Ohhh @Captain24 that felt really heavy reading that ♡ I am positive there are some of "your people" out there ... whats one little thing you can do this week to get closer to this? I find it helps me to know what I truly want from a friendship or close connection (honestly, authenticity, understanding, reciprocity)... when I'm clear for myself I find people aligned to that just appear ~ sometimes from the most interesting places...

Sorry @ccau_82. I didn’t mean for it to come across as heavy. To me it just is what it is. I could have probably worded it better if I hadn’t have just come off night shift… oops. 😅

It’s actually really hard to meet ‘my people’ I live in a small country town so there is actually no social groups or anything. Sports are younger people. Volunteering for charities is older people. There actually isn’t much for those in the 40’s

Yes that would be challenging. Peaceful life in small country towns though.. I have felt. We travelled to Big Red Bash in the Simpson in 2021 & I really loved Charleville, Miles, Winton areas on the trip. Headed back out again in 2026, going to take a slightly different route to adventure more @Captain24

Re: Connection

It’s a busy tourist destination and has grown since I was a kid but there is no hustle and bustle except on weekends then the locals actually don’t leave their houses! @ccau_82 I do love it though. Most are friendly and say hi when walking past them. The only problem is there is nothing here and very little medical support. Other than my GP everything mental health related is Telehealth. You also have to travel a minimum of an hour and a half for specialists or anything.

I do wish it was closer than 4 hours to the beach!!! The beach is my happy place.

That trip sounds really good. Getting the fresh country air and the feel of friendly country towns.

Plus I've always struggled to ask for help ♡ getting better at that...

Hey @ccau_82 , I seem to hear that a lot. For me, I think I have to approach it that people have their own lives and therefore, when I reach out, I may hope they respond, but I also tell myself that it's okay if they don't That way, I feel I don't set myself up to expect anything and so if they DO respond, then it's a bonus!

I hear you though. It can be very exhausting to always be reaching out, only to find nothing in return.
