Road to a better family

Road to a better family

Just jumping on to express my renewed faith in the system.

My daughter had her court hearing today. Instead of a conviction, she was given a Section 14. It was explained to us how counter productive incarceration would be for a 14yo girl.

So off to therapy, she has her own Psychologist plus we are undergoing some family therapy with a wonderful psychologist that has also agreed to supervise the Section 14, plus bulk bill us.

Sorry to sound overly happy about it, but it's just great to finally see some well thought out progress. It's been alot of work as parents to get this underway, and there's a long road ahead, but it will be worth it.

Hi @jrn, nice to re connect and thanks for sharing your update. I do remember you saying that the situation with your daughter got pretty intense.

I don’t know anything about the section 14, however I tend to agree that incarceration can be counterproductive for young people.

It sounds like you have a solid structure of support/plan at the moment in regards to the psychologist coordinating the family therapy and your daughter having her own psychologist. Knowing that you are getting bulk billed for the family sessions is a real bonus! Good one!
It’s not ideal to be ‘forced into therapy’ re your daughter however I really hope that she can eventually start to see the benefits and participate fully in the process, it sounds like things did hit a massive crisis and hear the need for the above process and why it needed to commence.
It’s awesome that you have seen progress, that’s a real win.
I send good vibes and wish your family the very best.

Keep in touch 😊

@Chasingsunsets thankyou so much for the kind word.

It's sort of being forced into therapy for her, as conditions of the S14, the alternative isn't good. Our daughter understands there is something going on with her, and she really does want the tools to manage. We are currently expecting and ADHD and BPD diagnosis. She is actually quite proactive in learning the ways to live with it now, rather than having to deal with mental health issues as an adult, when there is usually alot more to deal with.
