No where left to turn

No where left to turn

Hi there, what a way to make a first post.
I have been trying to reach out to health professionals to get some support but have been rejected at every turn. By my state's Health system. This means I have lost contact with all my treating professionals and am now about to run completely out of any medications I am on.

I am not sure how to navigate life in the modern age with no support from any system available in my state. I know I am supposed to go quiet and drop off their radar and the system is designed to assist this to happen but where am I supposed to get any help from when the system that denies me is in control of ALL health services state wide? It seems I am too stubborn to do what I am meant to and now I just wait for whatever the next state of existence will be.

I am not sure what my question ended up being here. Maybe I just wanted to leave a record.

Hello @unimportant and welcome to the forums.

I can hear that it's really difficult to know how to navigate life after losing contact with all your treating professionals, which also means your medications are about to run out - that all sounds really tough 😥

I'm very glad that you have found this forum and that you've felt able to post and I do hope that you will feel the support of the community during this time 👐.

I did also just want to share some resources that you may not have heard of:

  1. Home | Medicare Mental Health
  2. Lifeline - 13 11 14 - 24/7 Crisis Support

I hope it helps 🌟

Re: No where left to turn

Oh no, you're about to run out of medication @unimportant ! Do you think your local doctor/GP will be able to continue the Prescriptions for you?

When my Psychiatrist suddenly passed away and I had no more Prescriptions left, my GP was able to continue to give them to me. I guess it depends what medication you are on.

Also, have you tried getting a referral/be on a waiting list for your local Community Health Centre? Acess there is free and ongoing. You will be able to receive free therapy sessions with a psychologist, you just have to wait.

When the Community Health Centre discharges me, I will no longer be able to get Prescriptions too. I hope they don't discharge me any time soon as I'm not ready to be off my medications.

Hope you find access to a Health professional soon!

Re: No where left to turn

I must apologise. I was feeling a little more down than usual and did not listen to my usual advice of not typing in the moment. Sometimes we just get stuck.

We are in a weird situation with medical care and it is hard to explain. I am just adapting to a new reality, this will be fine after some adjustment...

Hey @unimportant

Not sure what state you're in but I've been in a similar situation in the past and my GP has been able to give me scripts when I couldn't see my psychiatrist.

It does sound like you're trying to stay on top of things so give yourself some credit for that. As for issues finding medical care, I've found that some organizations such as lifeline and mensline have pointed me in the right direction in the past.

I understand that feeling of not knowing how to navigate life either. I don't know what I'm doing and time just keeps moving forward.

Also don't apologize for posting here when you're down. I'm new here but in the short time I've used these forums the people here seem like decent people.

As I think others have said. A regular GP is important in the Australian system. They will often manage your meds during times when you are not in acute need of psychiatric care. Sometimes for years at a time, sometimes with annual MBS item 291 with a psychiatrist. But often it's all back to GP and optional private therapist (Who will sometimes write "Get this person to a psychiatrist ASAP" in reports and then it changes from there)

Re: No where left to turn

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately I have an ongoing issue with my state based health service, this happened after I escalated a comment and drew some attention.

As such therapy options have broken down, as soon as someone finds out about the issue which is causing me trouble, it is the quick path away from that mess.

As such I am now navigating health options that are purely based outside of the state based health system. Unfortunately I am have trouble as most funding and hence responsibility is tied back there.

I am looking at possible foreign options for therapy and medication. I will adapt. Just gets a little hard sometimes. There is more than me to worry about and unfortunately some of the strategies the health system has used to "fix the problem" have had very real consequences for others around me.

Everything is a juggle between making sure you are not forgotten and weathering the persuasive tactics employed against my family members.

The battle gets heavy sometimes and my resolve falters.
