Stuck in a rut

Stuck in a rut

Hi. I have just joined this group after reading about BPD. Previously I have been diagnosed with Complex PTSD, depression and anxiety. My psychiatrist mentioned BPD group therapy might be useful, but........... any kind of group activity is extremely anxiety provoking for me and if I am expected to speak and interact...... ??????

My brief history is... I'm the youngest of 4. Was an extremely shy child who saw everything but spoke and interacted little. I was a rule follower and peacekeeper. My Dad worked long hours and was strict. My mother was quiet and indifferent alot of yhe time. I was sexually abused by both of my brothers, a cousin and a family friend's son between the ages of 4ish to 11. It is still a secret from my Dad. My sister and Mother know, but they like to bury their heads in the sand. Me...... I still desperately need the illusion of a happy family to cope with my thoughts and feelings.

Now in my 40's I lead a very secluded solitary life. My 21 year old son still lives at home. He is very understanding even with his own issues with Aspergers. He is very smart and is a qualified machinist.

I feel so stuck in a place with no way out. I have zero motivation or will or want. Everything feels too hard and exhausting to do. Even going to the toilet or getting a drink takes hours to work up to and all of my energy. And I feel like I am failing at trying to get better. I see a Psychiatrist weekly (a new one for the last 6 months, previous one for 5 years) and my GP fortnightly. I am extremely well practised at hiding all emotion from showing on the outside and find speaking impossible often. I guess I do not have a question..... more a need to say I am stuck in a bad place and I do not know how to get out.... Sorry if this is not the place to air this.... I just need someone to 'hear' me

At the moment no. I am stuck in the I am not worth it mindset so that is crippling too. Because I hide how I feel from all except my Dr's, no one knows how hard things are. And I can not ask for help yet.

Re: Stuck in a rut

Oh wow @Hopesmum how are you able to hide how you feel when you are experiencing this, that alone sounds impossible and debilitating.

I really think you need to prioritise self-care so you allow yourself the time to do things that give you a break from your mind and help you to feel more relaxed at certain times of the day, even if it's half an hour. Is that possible for you to try? You do definitely deserve it, everyone deserves that, it's not a luxury or privilige it's just part of being a human being and being able to function, don't let anyone tell you otherwise even if you don't believe it yourself as you are going through such a hard time

Re: Stuck in a rut

Reading through what you have written @Hopesmum it could be me. My family know because I'm so chaotic and my friends know but they all don't really know either. I try not to talk to them about stuff in my head...that would be mindblowing for them. It can feel kind of crippling at times. Please look through some of the other discussions, you may find something that strikes a chord with you. It might help to talk through things on your mind at times too.
I agree that this level of living in our heads is debilitating. I'm trying to climb out of mine but man it's hard some days. Wishing you all the best. 💜😊

Re: Stuck in a rut

I'll try to remember what I wrote.....

Thanks @Former-Member

My family and few friends know I have depression, but have no idea of the severity or any other issues. To them I am the funny bubbly one who laughs and makes jokes all the time. To them I function reasonably normal. To me I have to keep the happy family illusion, which is difficult when everyone, except my sister, live within 20 minutes of eachother and we catch up many times. It is exhausting!!!!!

I will read more forum entries when I can. While it is a relief to know I am not alone and other's understand how I feel, it is very confronting. I feel so sad for everyone. It's just so unfair.....

Thanks everyone.... and know I care deeply for you all..... because I know

Re: Stuck in a rut

Yeah I'm a bit the same too with being the smiley one who laughs all the time @Hopesmum. It's hard to change that and I guess I don't want to much either. I would rather my family have memories of me like that than rocking in my bed for days on end. It's hard though, how to find the balance I guess is the million dollar question.

Im about to take a break from the forum. I'll check in here later and say hi.

Hi @Hopesmum
Just dropping to say hi and see how you are going. I also thought of you and wondered if you have checked out the daily goals, motivation and check in thread. It's just a discussion where we people post their goals and then try to support each other to achieve them or a supportive shoulder of we don't. Just a thought. I hope your doing ok. 💜🤗

Re: Stuck in a rut

Thanks @Former-Member for thinking of me. Xx

How are you going??

Me.... perhaps a little better than before. The heaviness is not quite as heavy. Now to get through a family wedding tomorrow and we'll see.... 🤔🙂

Goals...... 😣 scary stuff for a 100% pass 99% fail self thinker.... it's like an anxiety pressure cooker!!!!

Re: Stuck in a rut

Na @Hopesmum. Our goals are pretty hard to fail. Breathing counts as a goal 😀 As does eating and taking meds. It's good to hear things are a little better. I'm really hoping the wedding goes well. Those occasions are a little daunting. It helps that you can divert the attention back to the bride and groom all the time. Wishing you all the best 😊💜
PS it took a little while to get back to you as I'd had a roller coaster ride too. Feeling a little better for now too.
