Hi Kindandpositive, welcome to SANE Forums.

It sounds like you've been sitting with some heavy feelings and emotions which hasn't been helping you sleep. I can understand that strong desire to simply just get to sleep, so I can hear how frustrating that would be for you.

I noticed that you mentioned wanting some more immediate support so I thought it might be helpful to share some strategies and resources that might be helpful to you if you find yourself in this situation in the future.

Managing a racing mind or processing strong emotions isn't an easy task but fortunately there are strategies that can be helpful to calm our nervous system and quiet the mind. Grounding strategies are really helpful here - that could be 'The 5 senses', 'progressive muscle relaxation', or box breathing techniques (Youtube has great guides to follow for each of these exercises).

In addition to those strategies, sometimes it's just helpful to speak with someone in the moment. Lifeline is an amazing service and can be reached here: Lifeline Australia - 13 11 14.

It was a brave and proactive decision to reach out for support so give yourself some kudos and be kind to yourself :).

@Kindandpositive

Some people do try and be kind and positive. Love your name. I have struggled with both ends of the sleep spectrum. Eg a lot of insomnia, racing thoughts and anxiety, but also long periods of exhaustion from work and then depression. Life has seemed a long story of self regulation. We do what we can as parents, but we are human beings managing many stressors.

I have spent decades trying meditating, relaxation and various practices. Find which work for you. Often it’s not about instant success or fail, but gentle persistence.
