hugs to you @heartathome
being a mum is no easy role, and i imagine it's very hard to rest when you're caring for others 24/7. i hope you take a moment to breathe, remind yourself what an amazing job you're doing, and show yourself some self-compassion 💗

@heartathome @rav3n I agree, caring for people can be so emotionally tiring. I didn't fully realise how emotionally tired I was from the weight of taking on other people's issues until earlier this year, and someone I spoke to pointed it out to me. Recognising it really helped me to be aware of it, and of the need to mentally "offload" the responsibility for things outside my control, and just be caring and open but keeping the responsibility for things where they belonged and not taking it on.
Of course being a parent there is more responsibility! But parents are not really able to be responsible for everything their child chooses to do - esp as they become teenagers and young adults. But if there are some safety rails in place, hopefully that means that even if the children make some bad choices they can still have safe parents to support them and learn from their mistakes.

Hi @AlwaysMyself I've had to learn to strengthen my boundaries and to emotionally detach from my 30 something-year-old son at times. I'm the one there each time the poo hits the fan! He's always looking for an easy way to get out of what he's feeling whether it be drugs or alcohol. We always end up in psychosis or some downward spiral! Don't get me wrong! I love him to bits, and we mostly communicate really well! I won't enable him, though! I think it's different when it's your own son or daughter. The struggle is real. It's a constant case of realising that I have no control and there's nothing I can do but be there when he needs me!! His father gave up on him. I won't!! ❤️

@heartathome That sounds like a really healthy approach. 😊 I can imagine it's not an easy thing though to watch from the sidelines until he is ready to accept help and help himself!
