Are you a Veteran or the Family Member of a Veteran?

Are you a Veteran or the Family Member of a Veteran?

Hi,

Are you either a veteran yourself (someone who has served one full day in any of the defence forces, including reservists) or a family member of a veteran (a wife/husband/ child/ grandchild or any other relation)?

If the answer is YES please come and join us in our Shoulder 2 Shoulder spaces. SANE have one dedicated to Veteran's and a separate one for Veteran's families. You can join both spaces if you identify as both.

These spaces are inclusive and non-judgemental. There is none of that toxic stuff! These spaces are quite new so need some more members to come along and join in. You can still post here in the main forums as well. It is just an extra.

Hope to see you in our Shoulder 2 Shoulder spaces soon.

@Oaktree my Grandad served in the army and my cousin is currently still in the army. He's seen battle and served as a bombadier, he now helps people transition from army life to normal every day life.

My Nan's brothers didn't survive the wars. I have a bible that was given to one of my Nan's brothers when he went off to war. It still has trench mud caked on it. Its become part of the bible.

But, I don't feel like that's enough to belong in that forum space.

Hey @NightFury,

Sounds like you have quite a few veterans in your family, and your cousin is still actively serving in the army. We can hear you are wondering if what you shared is enough to be in the Veteran Forum space, and we want to assure you that it absolutely is!

If you are interested in joining, you are more than welcome to - as @Oaktree said, it's an inclusive and non-judgemental space for you to receive some support 🌻

My husband is a Vietnam Veteran and suffers PTSD he has also developed an addiction because of anxiety I am waiting on Open Arms for a psychiatrist he is currently taking anti depressants which are helping but he needs to talk to a professional I am currently supporting him but it's exhausting and I really don't know what Im doing. He suffered a medical trauma some years back which has led to this addiction.

Hi @Coppo and welcome to the forums. I'm glad that you've found this space to connect. It's really important for those supporting others to have their own form of support, and I hope this can be that for you.

It sounds like this whole process has been really difficult for both you and your husband, and that you're each doing your best. Is your husband open to speaking to a professional at this point?

I'm sure that many others here can relate to your situation, so if nothing else I hope that being here lets you know that you're not alone in this, the community is here for you
