ITS GARDEN TIME 🌿

ITS GARDEN TIME 🌿

Spring has well and truly sprung in our pocket of the world.
Time to get the garden looking springy

Today our veggie patches are getting a decent fill with compost and a redo, ready for the tommies which is our biggest grower and of course our zucs, cucumbers, and all the fun things

At one point over the summer last year we were picking tomatos 10 a day.

The Rural garden supply loves to see me!!

Whats everyone planting

@DownMoreThanUpI googled the motorbike frog call made me laugh I definitely know why they got their name haha. They have brilliant markings too!

Love the geese and those pink flowers !

Yes I know what you mean about the pump and frogs. Frogs love still water and the pump can suck up the tadpoles lol. Some slight aeration of the water would be good and prevent alge bloom though etc always lots to think about isn’t there 🤪

Love all your updates on you garden it’s so beautiful 🙏

@Chasingsunsets The strange part of the motorbike frogs is that although the motorbike frogs departed, other frogs did not, and still populate the pond, though their numbers are low. Like only half a dozen instead of 3 dozen.

Weird how that goes isn't?

Re: ITS GARDEN TIME 🌿

@Chasingsunsets Apart of the structures, like most of the fencing, pond, Bbq, Arbour and the pier into the lake, my wife does the gardening. She has the green fingers. Years ago, before my struggle with major psychoses began i began our garden. Only herbs at first, for with 5 children, and one with chronic asthma and constant bronchitis, we need herbs to help healing.

At the time our youngest suffered from severe asthma, and prescription medication, although they kept him alive, never improved anything but only treated the systems. So i began checking out herbal solutions and found many herbs that helped with Asthma, as well as treating bronchitis, and allergic reactions.

i started with a half dozen herbs that helped our son. Who by the way completely healed from his constant bronchitis and colds, and over the years that followed treated his asthma, which may well have been severe allergic reaction in retrospect, so thoroughly that he got over it altogether in the end.

However i enjoyed growing plants that much that soon our garden was bursting with herbs, in the end we had around 250 different herbs, some rare as, and almost all of them with other uses than look pretty in the garden, many of them had medical properties or other benefits.

However we sold that property and shifted down south. There i did grow a new herb garden at our new home. However this was only a temporal home, for our dream home we build from the profit we made on that one. For in just 18 months it increased its value by more than 30 percent, enough for us to build on the block, that we had already bought very cheaply for it was swamp/flood land, and where we are still living today.

Anyhow i became ill. Lost interest in all of my hobbies, as well as often too physically unwell to do anything. So no more gardening, fishing, hiking, photography, reading, cooking, creative writing, or computer gaming, for many years. Only cooking, tending my fish, computer programming, rebuilding, as well as gaming at times, (i love flight simulators, to fly has always been something i loved to do,) creative writing, and hiking, that is if i'm well enough, have resurfaced so far.

Over the years our garden has become my place of respite. Our home is out in the country, with swamp land all around us. A place with lots of wild life, especially birds, but also the rare white ringed possums, black tailed cockatoos, as well as swans, ibises, cranes, spoonbills, and many birds of prey, including Eagles and loads of (mainly tiger,) snakes of course.

So even though i also helped building the garden structures, it is my wife who has the honour of turning, and keeping. our garden into a little paradise on earth.😍

Re: ITS GARDEN TIME 🌿

Wow @DownMoreThanUp the photos of your patch of paradise are utterly beautiful. Yes even snakes have Beauty in my world, but then I have been lucky. Like @Jynx I appreciate your commitment to herbs. I have a very small space, so no competition. I enjoy just knowing you and your family live there. Mental health challenges are difficult, but often we have many positive qualities, skills and interests.

I used to hang out with Madagascan Boas and leopard skin tortoises… volunteering at the zoo…lol

Re: ITS GARDEN TIME 🌿

omg you got to volunteer at a zoo @Appleblossom ? That's so cooooool!!

Re: ITS GARDEN TIME 🌿

Our boas, had been caught at customs, illegally smuggled, so the zoo gave them a home. @Jynx It was behind glass in an enclosure where I regularly did visitor engagement. I did it for 5 years. It is funny how they still have presence in a quiet, mostly unmoving way. Though they do slither and quiver. I did my Dr Doolittle thing… and talked to the animals.

I got sick of snakes being screamed about in fear, or demonised, and I am Christian, so figure it is good to stick up for their rights sometimes.

I do however respect people who have not had good experiences.
