ITS GARDEN TIME 🌿

ITS GARDEN TIME 🌿

Spring has well and truly sprung in our pocket of the world.
Time to get the garden looking springy

Today our veggie patches are getting a decent fill with compost and a redo, ready for the tommies which is our biggest grower and of course our zucs, cucumbers, and all the fun things

At one point over the summer last year we were picking tomatos 10 a day.

The Rural garden supply loves to see me!!

Whats everyone planting

@DownMoreThanUp They Lillies are all so beautiful. I love the colour of the Scarborough Lily, and every time I see a water lily, I feel more relaxed.

Thank you so much for sharing.

Re: ITS GARDEN TIME 🌿

@DownMoreThanUp i have never seen a pineapple lily before. It is an interesting looking plant.

I love the deep purple colour in your roses. Do they have a fragrance to them? Not all roses seem to have their beautiful rose fragrance anymore. One of my favourite perfumes is called Paris, and I love it because it smells just like roses.

What sort of chilies are you growing? Do you like the really hot ones?

Is that beautiful boy at the bottom Zeus? He looks gorgeous. I love big dogs like that, as I can give them big hugs. Lol

Re: ITS GARDEN TIME 🌿

@Mustang67 Yes the pineapple lilies are magic in their own right. First of all it flowers for about 4-5 weeks and then it takes another month before they begin to look withered and loose their beauty. We love them, and every year they come up bigger than the year before.

i love hot chillies but hate handling them. What you see there is a Bunning's variety pack of chillies my wife bought to fill her last tub. i made a beautiful sweet chilli sauce with them.

Yes those rose are very nice looking and i'm sure they also smell but not overly strong.

My boy Zeus. He is my big snotty cuddle pot. He loves cuddles best of all. Big arm right around and he will sink to the ground with a massive growl and wants to growl with me petting him on his rib cage. He loves growling with me. Although he has calmed right down from how he used to be a puppy. My wife used to fear he was going to attack me that is how serious he took our game. But he never dreamt of harming me. He loves me to bits. He is an awesome dog to love as well as to get rid of aggression the nice way. He loves me aggressive, and so does Zeta, they wag their tail running to me🤣

dogs love playing seriously aggressive loving as!

Re: ITS GARDEN TIME 🌿

That is awesome regarding the dogs @DownMoreThanUp. There is nothing more comforting than having the unconditional love of your dogs. That's how I was with my Jack Russell. I used to play rough with him. He would bite on a rope toy we had and wouldn't let go. You could lift him off the ground with it, but he wouldn't let go until I told him to. I really miss not being able to have a dog or two.

Do the pineapple lillies need certain climate to grow? I am in SA and would love to buy some of these for my mum.

Re: ITS GARDEN TIME 🌿

@Mustang67 i see no reason why not! i live on the bottom of Western Australia and they do fine. They are quite hardy but do need weekly watering in Summer

i agree ours was magic this year! Best it has been. Below how it looked in 2023 in comparison

This is what our pineapple lilly looked like Feb 2023

Re: ITS GARDEN TIME 🌿

If i find some for mum, I will have to plant them for her. She is nearly 86 and I don't think she can get down to plant anything these days. The best she can do in her garden is water while she sits on her walker.

I just had a quick read and they like full sun, so I am sure I can find a place in her garden with full sun.

I see they come in bulbs. Do you know if you can buy them already potted? I suppose you can. I just looked at Bunnings and they only sell the bulbs. I might plant them and not tell mum, and then it will be a surprise when they start to grow.

@Mustang67

They do not need full sun ours isn't but a lot of sun. And the leaves are bulky so it needs a little room among the plants as well. It goes in Winter and Comes back Spring Flowers February into March.
