Need advice - psychosis prodromal phase

Need advice - psychosis prodromal phase

I am a mum looking for any advice on how I can help my son. Hes been dealing with depression and also the possibility of adhd, but after a assessment was done they now think hes presenting with symptoms of psychosis prodromal phase.

My side of the family has multiple family members that have schizophrenia so I understand that side of things but I never knew that there was the stage before it. Im struggling to know what to do, what to say, I try to encourage him to come out of room, to take a shower, to try make changes, have open conversations and show him i support and love him. It breaks my heart to see him going through life so unhappy and I just want to help him but I feel sometimes I make things worst for him.

I have struggled over the years with my own depression and loss of family members. Im so scared im not going to be strong enough to support him in the way he needs me to.

So there's still a way to go. @Concerned-mumma

He's got many years ahead. Speaking from my own experience, finishing school and transitioning to early adulthood was one of the hardest things in my life.

Upon reflecting, school 'feeds' and looks after you, gives you routine and boundaries.. then all of a sudden, they find themselves on their own and independent. It's not an easy time.

I hope you go on to much brighter days. Hopefully someone can have a chat to him about how to become more independent and he might consider lookingn for a job? Who knows.

All the best. Please look after yourself and let us know how things go for you.

I wonder if you can gently hand him the KidsHelpline number and webchat? He may access it himself?

Thank you I really appreciate your advice. I hope at some point hes able to get back to work, I think it will certainly benefit him to have some routine.

He has all the contacts in his phone in case he needs them, I have always tried to have a very open to discuss anything policy in my home.
