Grieving

Grieving

  • My Younger Sister and I have shared a bedroom our whole life and she has moved out for about a year now but I still can't adjust to the change and find myself heavily grieving about how distant we've become. I find some relief texting her almost everyday but still can't move on. Does anyone have younger siblings they can't stay close to? What do you do when you miss them so much and they don't reciprocate?

Re: Grieving

hi again @FearofUnknown!

sibling bonds are so special, and i can imagine that feeling a physical distance in that bond would feel overwhelming. i have a younger sister that i'm close with too but i think i was a bit of the opposite to you. i wanted some space from her to be my own person. we both talk pretty much every single day, but we also are okay if we don't see each other for a couple days.

going from seeing someone everyday face-to-face, to not as much, is a big jump and it's okay to feel uneasy. i see you've mentioned texting everyday but still feeling distant, would you mind sharing what you mean by feeling 'distant'? is there anything in particular that you miss?

in moments i miss my sister but know she's unavailable, i reach out to my other friends instead and catch up with them. if they're busy too, i either journal what i wanted to share with my sis or i do activities that bring me comfort (like watching a movie, working on some crafts, going for a walk, etc).

Re: Grieving

I miss going to sleep with my sister the most and I would be lying if I say my sleeping pattern hasn't been affected since she's moved out.

By distant I mean I can't connect with her because she's changed now and I can't keep up.

And thanks for replying @rav3n

Re: Grieving

ohh yep, thanks for clarifying that, i see what you mean now. this might sound silly but it's worked for me and a few of my friends - we sleep with a plushie instead. i got a weighted plushie to help with my anxiety but it did help me sleep better too. i've heard there's also 'cuddle pillows' that can help with sleep too. @FearofUnknown

change can be hard and scary, but it's also a natural part of any relationship. have you spoken to your sister about how you feel disconnected?

Re: Grieving

I own 2 plushies, a dragon and a jellyfish and they are good at providing me some comfort. I love to hug my dragon a lot more than the jellyfish. Thanks for suggesting it @rav3n . What plushies do you own?

Re: Grieving

@FearofUnknown aww those sound so lovely!! i've got a bunch of different ones around the house but the main two that sit in my room are my teddy bear and weighted bunny (my fav one). i want to get a sloth one maybe... or dragon, that sounds really cool.

also, if you're interesting in sharing pics of your plushies, feel free to check out this thread too:

hope you're doing okay 💙

Re: Grieving

I noticed you didn't share a photo of your plushies in the other thread. I can't upload a photo of mine due to technical difficulties (photo is over 3mb). Would you mind sharing a photo of them here @rav3n ?

Re: Grieving

that's okay, totally understand the tech issues. i don't have pics with me right now but my plushies should be on the thread, they might just be hard to find hehe. i'll link them below!

here's a couple of them: https://saneforums.org/t5/Social-space/Cuddles-Corner-Show-off-your-plushie-buddies/m-p/1626095/highlight/true#M435552

the one with the 'little dude' shirt is the teddy that sits in my room.

and here's a pic of my weighted bunny (my fav one to cuddle): https://saneforums.org/t5/Social-space/Cuddles-Corner-Show-off-your-plushie-buddies/m-p/1692259/highlight/true#M459963

where'd you get your plushies from??
