Hello Bellababe,

Im Baboo, one of the moderators here on the forum.

Distraction strategies or techniques to deal with self harm or suicidal thoughts will be different for every person. It might help to try a few things that other people suggest and find the right one for you.

Ive heard of hobbies, gym, art work, painting your nails, cold brisk shower, a phone call to a friend or family member- or a phoning a service like life line (131114) you could re organise your bedroom. Ive heard some people like to hold a block of ice untill it melts.

Google may be your friend also for research on coping stratigies

Do you have any hobbies or interests atm?

I have had a "down down day", when the hopelessness just drains me of any motivation or life in me to do any thing. All I do is read a book to divert the thoughts then fall asleep.Only way I can get through the thoughts, and the hopelessness. In a way it is giving tin to it, another way it's the only way of keeping myself safe, and numbing myself from the life on this day,I no longer can bear to live and struggle to get through.I go walking when I'm not this low.I dont have friends so if you have them and or a good support somewhere use it as isolation feeds the condition.

Ive used many distraction techniques but they dont really work esp when the urges are strong. I ride horses but my joy is slipping away and have no motivation to do it.

My days are constantly very low and still spiraling downwards. No i dont really have friends and my family arent supportive either whivh makes it harder in a way

Can understand Bella and when I walk I constantly stop ,with distressed, numbness, hopelessness, make myself go but I am not there. The endorphins don't kick in.If I see brumbies that is the one moment that gives me some kind of relief. What is your attitude towards antidepressants?Have you tried finding a professional?I have been there, not helped me but if you haven't I suggest you give it a go in a attempt to save yourself.

Im already on anti depressents but they arent working so im waiting to see a psychiatrist in an attempt to fix them and im seeing a psychologist and about to start a suicidal prevention program

Yeh I had to see a psychiatrist because I had a reaction to antidepressants a few years ago. Obviously they aren't working but when my psychologist challenges me to take them I believe I still had the same thoughts...Maybe that's just me.Just try and hang in there Bella and.Thats what I'm trying to do but the darkness of depression and the thoughts are strong.I understand that.My best thing is patting my cats,I miss putting my arms around a horse's neck. Try the help, watch whatever antidepressants you are given because if they make you feel worse or the same, they aren't "help".Make sure you get good help as my help actually did more harm than good.If you aren't happy with any help whether it's antidepressants or the psychologist, find someone who you are happy with.It makes a lot of difference.Try and self care whether it is eating healthy,or getting your hair trimmed etc.Anything to give you relief from the thoughts.
