Our Down Syndrome daughter is home for the weekend! She has been doing so well the last 6-7 weeks. For she only recently moved into her own home, she/we bought together with someone else who also have a down syndrome daughter, although she has not yet moved in. The house is placed in a protected and supportive environment. We have employed 5 carers to give her 24/5.5 support.
She was so happy to be with us for the weekend though. So ready to relax with us and not to have to preform but just be our girl.
No signs of any major stress either. Our daughter suffers from C.P.T.S.D, from her baby years, from before she came to be with us, and can get badly triggered when things do not go right. This has been complicated by the fact the our daughter has real problems communicating, and only those who know her, can make sense of most of what she is saying when answering them.
So this whole moving bit of our daughter has been biting finger nails for us praying she would not get triggered at this crucial time. For that could stuff up the moving process big time, and we may well be forced to start from scratch again.
Thank God not only is she doing really well, she is blossoming in every respect right in front of our eyes. For her having her own home, and a say in what happens in her day, is something she never even wanted to utilise with us living at home. (There she much prefers being treated the queen!🕌 (as she should be😁!)) Yet now she is the boss in her own home and she is loving it.
We are very blessed to have an awesome team of carers. Most well experienced, and all have skills on offer for our girl. One with 14 years of working in this field, and special skills when it comes to mentally challenged people, as well as (C).P.T.S.D.
A real bonus we bumped into this woman at the right time. We are so happy to have found her. At least this carer understands very well what we mean with triggers, and understands how to avoid them, and has the skills to help when our daughter has been triggered. All stay in constant contact with us. So hopefully we do not have to come out to come to rescue her (and everyone else,) for she has lost her courage. (It was years, of careful planning, before we could leave her with someone else in care just for one night. For she was petrified she be abandon again.)
