Today's climax was fertilising the fruit trees and cleaning my pond filter.
The filter has been running for near 5 months and accumulated much debris. 20 litres of slushy fertiliser, i know all fruiting plants love it. So i cleaned it today. Physical labour wise this was no big deal, maybe just over 10 minutes of physical labour, but it took a lot of time emptying and filling up again with clean water. All up the filter contains around 850 litres of water. Most of the water i could add to the pond, but some of it, became very dirty cleaning, and i had to get rid of and replace.Luckily we have a bore, as well as free rain water, so water is no issue for us.
Fertilising the fruit trees was a big job, my wife and me did together. We have many fruit trees, (30+) but can not give them granulated fertilisers because all trees are visited by ducks, chicken, Guinea fowl, and Geese, and we know pellet fertilisers harm birds, so we liquid fertilise them.
However to do this five times the labour, and many times heavier work, but well worth it getting tons of fresh fruit throughout the first months of Summer and the Apples at Autumn, without harming any birds. (for apart of our own birds we have many other species of wild birds visited us as well, especially in the latter Summer months, when water all around has become more scares but our dam is still full of water and things to eat. We get cranes, spoon bills, swans, wild ducks, Ibises as well as various types of coots and other swamp birds.
