Re: Hi

Back to therapeutic hort talk again, @ArraDreaming

It's really good that you know that about yourself; that being outside and using your hands is better for your mental health. I work inside (obviously) but I have various indoor plants in my office at home and my windows look out at trees (my house feels like a tree house because it's up high-ish). Do you have a garden and stuff at home?

Super interesting about the concept of "disrupting your flow". I can see how that can be frustrating, particularly if you generally struggle to focus at the best of times. It's particularly hard when people don't understand how hard it is for you. I guess, how could they know unless we've told them? Everyone's brains work differently and some people are lucky enough to not get really thrown when their flow is disrupted. Lucky ducks 🙃

I've always been drawn to jobs where I HAVE to do a bunch of different things, and need to have the ability to switch up what I do. Otherwise I get bored. I'm more productive when I can do a lot of different things.

Everything you said made 100% sense to me.

Re: Hi

Did I tell you about how at work I often cop comments about how I start things and move on to the next thing (the flow is up to me the issue is when people disrupt my processes lol)
I am known to start a project, leave tools out
and go to the next thing
Im fully aware I do it and often leave a trail but I do get to them all to finish
I once left a chain saw on the road

This lady at work in the reception team was consistently making comments and almost like little digs at me and sometimes they were pretty hurtful you know stuff like
When will he get himself together, wouldnt want to be his wife tidying up after him, be a fly on the wall in that house what chaos,
and sometimes I have been really taken back by it
Then one day she said something when I was standing kind of out of sight but in earshot and I think she realised I heard her and she found me about 15 mins later and said to me that she had an accident on a farm and ever since then she has had way less of a filter and she apologised to me for the comment I had never told my workplace but in return I said to her I have adhd and explained that part of that is a lack of organisation and moving from one thing to the next but I am really working on it and she understood she said oh thats interesting and I got the idea she didn’t know much about adhd, older lady,

what I found really funny was another person came into the conversation and I repeated myself
and they said
“Oh no shit, is the sky blue? I knew that from the day you walked in” @0ddsidian

idk, was just reflecting on how far I have
come with different things I guess @Jynx I was just thinking about it

I have a lot to work on and I go through hard times but for the most part I would say I am happier and more successful then I have ever been in my life yet

It sounds cringy af though doesn’t it

It’s like I have spent so much time just getting through fog that now I am actually achieving things that young me wouldnt of dreamt doing and setting goals for myself, instead of just survival mode

Im not going to pretends all sunshine and roses but getting through the harder times is a lot easier then they used to be I think fair to say I am having less red days then I used to and when I do have a bad day it doesnt linger I can work through it

Im doing things I never thought I would Jynx, every Sunday I have a crew of people I call mates that I spend time with, I have a job and a family my favourite part of the day is my coffee in the morning with Mrs AD and coming home in the afternoon to play with my kids

Overall Im pretty shit at life sometimes But just out here having a crack

and tbf not having the best time at the moment but I know I will get through it

@ArraDreaming reading this has brought so much joy to my soul. We are all soooooo effin proud of you mate - like it's insane how far you've come. Been here with you through new job, new kids, new house, and a whole lotta reflecting and learning. Even though that other stuff takes over at times, you do always own it, like you are accountable and take the time to apologise and be understanding of impacts, rather than throwing excuses or accusations, you know?

Also pretty sure you and I are similar in that 'cringey' sense - like I always found it so cringe to do stuff like listing my strengths or giving myself a pep talk in the mirror - but then like...it helped 😅Hahaha like 'aww man, this is so uncool, recovery is laaaaaame.... but it's better than the misery so I guess I'm cringe now?' 🤣

Also that is WICKED COOL about your garden getting the spotlight!! Filming was today?

Ope, just saw your latest posts - you ok mate? Need to vent?

Re: Hi

You have not told me about the work comments, @ArraDreaming. Chainsaw on the road... not ideal 🙃 When it comes to starting and stopping stuff; I think it's only a problem if it negatively impacts someone else. Like I'll start tidying my office, leave a bunch of things out, and then stop and move on to a different task mid-way. But I don't live with anyone else so it doesn't impact another person. But if I did something like that at work or when I visit someone, it might negatively impact someone else, which is when it's a problem.

It sounds like that woman was being quite judgmental initially, and that her past experiences had resulted in her making some automatic assumptions about you. But I'm so glad that you two could have a moment to connect and understand a bit more about each other. Maybe you've helped change her perspective of people with ADHD.

I wonder if that other person has (or knows someone with) ADHD, and could just pick up on it super easily. I find I can often spot another ADHDer pretty quickly, especially in-person!

Hope you're feeling less overstimulated now ♥️ Sounds like work went really well. Proud of you!

Re: Hi

LOL "Is the sky blue?" @ArraDreaming . I totally get it. There are people where you can see ADHD straight away, and sometimes, it takes someone else to point it out.

When the way you post on the forums is clear re ADHD. I'm reading a book on ADHD and it says having ADHD is like a popcorn machine - continues to pop out ideas and thoughts and can't be kept in.

The other analogy is that ADHD is like someone driving a lambourghini without brakes. Go go go go and can't stop.

The book was sharing that part of working with someone with ADHD is helping them to develop strategies to use BRAKES.... and I thought of you straight away. No one else has posted so quickly on the forums that their posts are considered 'spam'...

Get teh drift?

How was today? How'd it go?
