Re: Tabaluga's 2.0

I feel a bit better now after lunch @SmilingGecko . I can deal with the downs. It’s the ups when I don’t sleep that are the riskiest. May be down due to having to repeat blood pressure tests. Spoke to my GP. Turned out I had the script I thought had run out but she is sending me other scripts because she’s going away for six weeks mid-April. I’ll miss her. She gives me a discount rate. Other GPs don’t. I’m not on a pension card because I get a super pension not w payment eligible for pension card. No discount on bills or meds. until I’m 67. Enjoy your pizza.

Re: Tabaluga's 2.0

Thats really nice of your GP to offer a discounted rate @GezzaP She obviously cares about your situation. Many GP clinics that used to bulk bill have been shoehorned into becoming private clinics. Its not due to greed or not caring about the general public they are like anyone else running a business - they have to pay for the building, receptionists, nurses, equipment and supplies. Many GPs during the pandemic were barely breaking even and many shut down. I think its becoming more widespread. People in poorer catchment areas used to really hate GPs for not bulk billing but they dont realise they have to try and cover their overheads somehow. Its a matter of sums and no choice really not disregard for those who are struggling financially. But I hear you how things are tight financially and the strain. I've been wondering for a while how some clinics I go to are going to go private or shut up shop. I saw a breakdown of costs for one GP clinic in The Age and yes its just as much of a strain for them as it is for someone like yourself. Many doctors like the idea of neo-liberalist medicine clinics which is an idea that has come from the USA and has hit our shores. They have to get by somehow and neo-liberalism in medicine has its appeal. Anyway just had my pizza it was sweet and delicious. I had my dinner for lunch so thankyou for that suggestion. It feels so right to honor my bodys natural rhythms. I'm very grateful for being bulk billed but dont know how long that is going to last to be honest.

Re: Tabaluga's 2.0

Neoliberalism has dominated the world since the mid 1970s. We all pay for it. @SmilingGecko I have to buy lots of meds this pay cycle probably cost $70 plus. It’s really hard and I have to pay psych too. Moan moan moan sorry. Glad you enjoyed your lunch and like my suggestion of eating main meal at lunch time.

Re: Tabaluga's 2.0

@GezzaP I thought neo-liberalism might have been introduced by the WHO during the 1980's but youre right it was the 1970's. Its been slowly creeping through the devolving health sector ever since. I did read an article about it but may have misunderstood what they said. I was involved in a health promotion van that used to travel throughout our shire in the 1990's. The goal was to demystify the role of the doctor and put health information in the hands of the general public. We had a van full of filing cabinet information which I and a health promotions nurse put together. Back then there was no information, no internet and you would never question your doctor. We had people coming all around the shire asking questions about their health issues. I moved to another town that had a beautiful community health centre with dentists, doctors, psychologists and social workers. It was neo-liberalist model of primary health care. It makes me wonder if its closed down now like all the community mental healthcare clinics. Anyway it was all health promotion and community development models. Now I dont think healthcare is even a basic human right

Re: Tabaluga's 2.0

Neoliberalism was brought in by Reagan and Thatcher in the 1970s @SmilingGecko . It spread to the World Bank and has dominated the world by the early 1980s. Community health does not fit in this ideology. I could go on but I’ll spare you the rant. Now we have a world dominated by big corporations. It makes the rich richer and the poor poorer. Anyway I’ll shut up cause some people here don’t like talk of politics.
