@DownMoreThanUp hmmm the title of my last song got me thinking about our conversation yesterday regarding freedom. when i was at uni i read this book hmmm i think it was called the stranger (is a long time ago....) let me check it out now .... okay i just googled it and yes it went like this:
"The Stranger (or The Outsider) by Albert Camus is about Meursault, an emotionally detached French Algerian who lives life with indifference, focusing on physical sensations over emotional connection, famously starting with "Mother died today. Or maybe yesterday, I don't know". After his mother's funeral, he forms a casual relationship with Marie, befriends a criminal named Raymond, and inexplicably shoots an Arab man on a beach, seemingly driven by the oppressive sun. The novel's second part details his trial, where society condemns him not just for the murder, but for his lack of conventional grief and emotional honesty, revealing the absurdity of life and the meaningless search for purpose in a chaotic world, ultimately leading to his execution. "
anyway when he was in prison he experienced freedom in his mind. in his thoughts. he was free. it was a short book but one i can thoroughly recommend. easy to read and thought provoking.
