I'm the partner of a paranoid schizophrenic

I'm the partner of a paranoid schizophrenic

Hi, I'm the partner of a paranoid schizophrenic and I need some support. I also want reassurance that I'm not too problematic and causing issues in our relationship. My partner whom I absolutely love to the ends of the earth seems to be getting worse, he believes I'm conspiring against him and that I'm ruining our relationship. I don't believe for one minute I'm alone, but it certainly feels that way more often than not. I truly hope to receive some advice from anyone who is kind enough to help. Audrey 🌺

I'm sorry that you're experiencing that @AudreyKane While I know that your partner isn't well at the moment, it's never okay to be verbally abusive. Do you have any supports who you've been able to talk to about this? 1800Respect specialises in this area and can be really great to talk to if you feel up to giving them a call.

Hi,

No I don't have anyone, but please don't get me wrong, I know he's unwell, and I can't imagine what it's like to be in his head. I love him so very much and just want the best help for him, in addition, I'm researching as much as I can so I can better understand. He has such a beautiful heart and soul, and deserves the best and understanding partner ❤️

He's very lucky to have a partner like you @AudreyKane it sounds like there is a lot of love in your relationship. It can be easy when we're so focused on supporting a loved one to not take any time to focus on our own wellbeing, which in turn makes it even harder to support others, so let us know if there's anything we can do to support you here too

Is there a way for both of you to work out the difference between…venting naked expression of anger, and being verbally abusive? @AudreyKane

Being constructive in working with the energy of anger, without hurting anyone.

He's told me time and again, it's his reaction to my response/s what am I missing?

@AudreyKane

Sorry to hear what you are going through. That sounds tough. The first thing I want to say is that language is really powerful. Instead of calling him a paranoid schizophrenic it is better to say that he is a person experiencing paranoia and schizophrenia. I know that this sounds like semantics and I am really sorry for that.

It is never ok for someone to be verbally abusive. I hope that there is some way that you can resolve this issue with him. It must be quite frightening for you. I hope that the two of you can get help to move into a more healthy relationship. What the others have suggested with Relationships Australia and 1800 RESPECT might be really helpful if you give them a call to talk about what you could do. I really do feel for you but unfortunately, I have no answers. I am here to listen if you ever want to chat.
